We have a approx. 5 year old Maytag Ensignia washer. I've never really liked it -doesn't get rid of lint & animal hair and occasionally smells. It recently stopped spinning -made a screeky noise-and clothes are left wet. The technician says it needs a new transmission ($500) . . .
Any advice? I miss my harvest gold Maytag with the center dial and a lint filter!!

Pitch it!

The Maytags of five years ago are garbage. You'd be better off finding a vintage Maytag than fixing this one. Parts are abundant and most of my fellow posters on here would agree that the old Maytags are easy to work on.

Go get some old Maytags. They aint as flashy or splashy as some like one poster said and you CAN'T stuff 'em-but one should never do that with any machine-but they will last and last more than any other.

Thanks for the response -I'm not enthusiastic about going out and spending good money on a new machine that will probably be about as lousy as the one we're getting rid of! I'm researching some used appliance places in the area -

Lintpicker, you might want to give craigs...list a try. The hunt is part of the fun. alr2903
