Flooded Bosch

Hello everyone,

During the recent floods in Louisiana, my Bosch SHE68M05UC/50 went under water. I had 7ft of water in my house. I lost everything and decided to plug the dishwasher back in. It appears to be working. The screen lights up and the time readout on the top is working. When I shut the door I hear the relay for the water valve engage. It looks as though I can find replacement pumps online for a reasonable price. Is it worth salvaging? I lost everything else I just kinda wanted to save something from my home and it was a great dishwasher!!!!

I'm unable to comment about your question, but I would like to express my sympathies.

Verry sorry to hear that.

If you have insurance (which I dearly hope for you), they should either pay for the repair or a new machine. The new Bosch lineup is just as good, if not better.
However, I personaly don't think it really is worth saving. If tge pumps don't run, it is verry likely that other parts have suffered as well. For example, the insulation will be soaked, that can cause mold pretty easy.

So, even though I am verry verry sorry for you, I don't think it really is worth saving. I'd rather search for new one. As far as I know there some models from Bosch in the 600$ price range, and under the hood, pretty much every Bosch is simmilar.

Hope you get to a somewhat normal life as soon as possible.

I would let it go. I feel your pain for trying to save some money. Flooded appliances dont usually end well.

It's Alive!!!!

So just an update....Before throwing my Bosch out, I plugged it in and decided to give it a shot. I have washed 5 loads of dishes without a hiccup. Remember this dishwasher was completely submerged under 7ft of water!!!!

I'd keep an eye on the connectors, pins and contacts for them, but sounds like a true trooper

I know when my house flooded years ago... I stuffed crap in the dishwasher during the evacuation (Took the racks out and put my mixer and other items i wanted to try and save) and the stuff inside stayed dry.. Some how... The oven only got slightly damp

With all the other damage you have to deal with, what prompted you to even try?

I had 5" in my utility/laundry room which is on a slab and water came trickling thru the wall in the den corners (also in a slab-but 2" higher) Had to change water drain pump and dryer heating element. Washer and dryer now on pedestals and freezers are now on concrete blocks.

Wishing you well with getting your home and life back to normal. There is back water around me that still has not drained away. Mosquito spraying several nights a week too!

Flooded Dishwasher

7 Feet of water will not ruin most appliances if they don't stay under water for longer than a day or so. I am not surprised that it worked again after the water went down and things dried out.

 

To everyone that was suggesting he just throw it out you should consider that most of these flood victims do not have flood insurance, so unless you want to give a new DW to someone that could use it I would suggest that folks with flooded appliances clean them up let them dry out and see if they still work or can be easily fixed.

Salt water or other heavily contaminated water would make more cleaning necessary, but still won't necessarily destroy appliances in my experience.

I tried the washer again because I had nothing better to do with my day....LOL It is still going strong washing 1 to 2 loads of dishes a day. Even my Asko washer and dryer are working but suddenly the suspension in my washer went out this week.
