Another item I have been researching lately is a floor steamer to clean my stone floors.  When I opt to kennel my dog in the kitchen, he has on occassion relieved himself on the floor.  While it isn't a huge problem, it would be nice to have a tool to quickly clean and sanitize the tile without the use of chemicals.  I have mostly looked at the Monster floor cleaner and the Haan.  Anyone own one?  What are your opinions?

Steam Cleaners

I have been thinking of getting a Polti Vaporetto steam cleaner, as they can be used all around the home. The problem with steam mops is that they can only be used for floors!

We bought a HAAN about a year ago. It does alright, but only alright. It has a nice water capacity and it heats in about 3 min after filling and maintains heat well.

The first time I used it, it left the floor sticky and cloudly/streaky looking. But after about three times that went away and the floors looked clean again. I like the fact that the floor dries in abou 3 minues or so after washing.

The unit also came with a hand steamer that works great on dog nose prints on the windows.

I am not sold on steam all the way. I think it's a fad. We used the hand steamer on a dirty stovetop and it took about 20 minutes to get it clean with steam. It kept streaking. It took about 3 minutes with Windex and a paper towel or two. The same thing with cleaning the microwave.

My final opinion is that steam is fine if you have a lot of time on your hands to clean things and possibly have the time to go over the area again using the conventional methods.

I started out a few years ago with the Shark steam mop and for the most part I really liked it.  After hearing good reviews about the Haan I got the Slim and Light model and I really do like it.  I have a lot of ceramic tile and it does a very nice job on it.  It dries quickly and leaves a nice shine on the tile.  Haan has some features I really like, a removable water tank for easier filling, and a much longer cord than the Shark.  As with cleaning any floor I find it very important to vacuum well before steaming it.

Haan

I have the model Haan that I posted in the link below. The shop where I work part time used to sell the Monster or a very similar model and we didn't have good luck with it. I love the Haan and it works very well. Since our water here is crap, I use only distilled water in it. I was cleaning the grout in my room, and wondering what had the dogs done since I couldn't get the black spot off the grout. I had actually blown out a piece of the grout! It's not a high pressure steam, but enough pressure to take out grout if you're not careful! I'ved used to to clean a rather filthy oven and you don't even want to know what is lurking around your toilet lid when you clean with one of these.

We've had customers bring in a couple of Lady Bug steams for minor repair. They love them, but they are much more expensive than the Haan. Overall we've had a good experience with Haan.
