Foca?

IMO an excellent detergent. I use it all the time. Once you get used to the dosage you will get spoiled by it. It also rinses well. Not nearly as high-sudzing as Viva, and I don't think it is as strong as Viva.

It has some bluing to perk-up coloreds and brighten whites.

How is the odor of FOCA? I see it in the large plastic bag, but can't get a hint of odor out of it. We finally ran out of the tropica rain forest FAB, which we loved and can't seem to find any more and want to give FOCA a try as a replacement.

Hi Allen, I have been using FOCA since Steve turned me on to it a month or so ago. It cleans very well, it's cheap to purchase, and it leaves NO scent that I can detect. It also does not leave a residue like so many other of todays powders. I was liquid only type of guy, except on the Frigidaires, but I am using FOCA in all my machines these days.

Like the guys said, Foca should be fine in a non-HE toploader.

It's too high sudsing to be used in an HE machine, though, in my opinion.

BTW, was just in a local Mexican market today (there are a LOT of them in my area). I saw that Ariel has a new "flavor" out, with a new fragrance. There is also an Ariel product with a "Touch of Downy" (at least that's how I translated the Spanish). However they are probably still high sudsing because there is a little picture of a front loader on the package that says to use "Ariel Low Sudsing" (Ariel Baja Espuma) for front loaders.

Interestingly, the Ariel products in the bags here still contain STPP. At least that's what the english language add-on ingredient sticker says. In the spanish ingredient list, it's simply described as "water softener" (agua limpeador).

I also got a glimmer of why the product is called "Ariel" in the first place. It's listed as an ingredient, as in "alkyl ariel sulfonate", which is a corruption of "alkyl aryl sulfonate". See the link for details on the compound which says it is the most common surfactant in laundry detergents.

Our water in Boston is pretty soft, so I get a sudz lock in the first spin and have to rinse twice. Needless to say, I don't use it often. But it smells nice, and cleans great.

Yeah, back in Atlanta where the water is fairly soft, I had to be careful.
Here in Roanoke where we have hard water the Foca seems just right and I still have to be careful with the Viva depending on what machine I am using.

Its all in the doing and it take some trial and error to get it right for you.
One thing about the Mexican detergents is that they are measured like detergents used to be-----with a cup or so for a full/dirty load as opposed to the tiny scoops we are used to here in the US.

BTW I have used Foca without any sudz-lock in my FriGEMore, so again, it is all in the dosing.

We bought a bag of FOCA last night ($3.22 at Walmart) for enough that will probably last us 9 months or so. I was surprised that it was blue in color, for some reason (probably due to the packaging) I thought it'd be white with blue dots.
Anyway, we used 75ML of it to wash some dog beds this morning. It suds up some, but rinsed out very well on the second rinse.
50ml would probably be the perfect dose for us. It does dissolve very easily in warm water. While the detergent does have a rather strong scent, it doesn't stick to the clothes as noted in an earlier post. In fact, the dog beds are very clean and bright and they have no detergent scent at all after being washed with FOCA.
For the price, it can't be beat.
One last question, does it fade clothes rapidly? We plan on using it for our whites and colors, and use Cheer powder for our darks and denims.

Dont forget FOCA has phosphates. Illegal phosphates!

I used Tide for a spell, after realising how much better it was than Purex liquid (duh). Then i was turned onto FOCA here. No need for Tide now! It rinses much easier than Tide, even with a single rinse. It keeps my whites white WITHOUT bleach. I like the bluing too.

Do a yucky undies/socks/washcloth type load with just a normal dose of F and a single rinse. Then do the nose test. Its that good.

I use Cheer for my darks too.

Cheer for darks,

Foca or Roma for whites. They clean like a top shelf detergent for bottom shelf prices. The large bags can fool you, however. The dosage is pretty big so they big bags do go fairly quickly, but its still VERY cheap and the best value for the money out there.

Sudzy washing,
Dave
