Matching Dryer
Thanks Greg, Funny that they don't mention the matching Hi Speed dryer. We have one in John's basement that was never used. During production of the gas model, they reduced the burner BTUs because the machine was faster than anything that came before and people were damaging clothes by setting it for more time than needed. I think it only offered the choice of heat or air. Maybe they should have reduced the drying temperature or added a "Low" setting.

So it did come in Pink!
I never knew that Bendix ever made any washer in any color except for white until now. John Lefever and I talking the other night and he told me that Bob in Cleveland had that washer in pink once, but neither one of us could ever remember seeing any Bendix, or Philco for that matter in any color but white.
Great fun scans Greg, that is a georgous machine! Tom have you ever used one of the those early Gas Bendix Hi-Speed Dryers? I wonder if it was even faster than my 50AMP '57 Lady Kenmore dryer, it's an incredible dryer, its even faster than my GE Harmony dryer.

My LK Combo has a 37,000 BTU heater so John tells me but it is modulated so you only get the 37K at the start of the cycle.

Greg thanks for scanning this - I didn't realize Bendix offered colors on these machines also. I would guess this is about a 56? My Grandmother had a Bendix maybe a little earlier model. It had gray dials one at far left for load size and timer on right. In middle was hot / warm temps switch. I was always so excited to go and watch the machine run. Even though I like my LG nothing compares to the old action with a lot of water splashing around!

Thanks Greg for sharing that wonderful brochure. I didn't believe my eyes when I saw the colors. The wash speed of 59rpm seems very fast to me, I assume the clothes in these machines get taken all to the top of the drum?

And we found it in Bendix service literature.
Kenmore had at least 2 37,000 BTU dryer burners. One went into a very brief run of old, perforated-drum back LK dryers and one went into the combos. Both modulated, but the combo burner was built to hold a higher temperature. I have one of the 37K modulating dryer burners in a KitchenAid dryer that is part of the outdoor gas trio. It is a very fast dryer. The temperature does not go up and down as it would with a cycling heat source. It will cycle if set to a lower temperature, but life is too short for drying on low heat.
And we found it in Bendix service literature.

On a 50amp line the dryer ran at 8000 watts - heat on or heat off as Tom desicribed, no low setting. The Super-Fast gas dryers had 33,000 BTU input.
And colors! Those were new for 1957 from Bendix.

I also recall that the 1963 washer edition of CR rated the Miss America and mentioned that it came in pink, turquoise and copper brown. I will need to recheck that as it is a recollection. Imagine though actually finding one in color!!!
