Coconut Poundcake

Whats not to love about a cake that takes two mixers and about 10 minutes of beating?

A K-4 LOver Needs to Know

The K-4 is very quiet and powerful but it's tinned bowl wears off over time and for people afraid of rust it needs to be retinned.  Also the deep and narrow shape of the 4 quart bowl sends the dry ingredients over the edge for a messier mix than a K-45.

Wow Kelly! Dueling (or more like teamed) K4's! That's awesome!

But hey, I thought the white one had a burned out motor.

Off to the Races

The cake normally bakes for 2 1/2 hours at 300 degrees.  It went into a preheated convection oven at 300 with combination bake.  I set the timer for 60 minutes and let her rip.

Rise and Fall

The cake pan must be heavily greased for it rises like an angel food while in the oven and then settles back to the top rim of the tube pan as it cools.  If you don't grease the pan the sides stay stuck and the middle falls causing the macaroon top to shatter.  In this maiden run the cake crowned at 45 minutes and then settled to a lower elevation before it was time to remove it from the oven.  Total baking time with combi mix was 47 minutes.

Moist

The cakes texture was very moist but yet it had a fluffy quality not acheived in a regular oven.  It is extremely important to wash the interior of the oven before using the heated option so all the microwave splatters don't get cooked on.

Whaaaa!

I want one!

The oven that is, I've got cakes already in the kitchen! *LOL*

Just love the build quality of that MW combo convection, right down to the broiling tray.

Really can appreciate how the lack of a turn table makes for more room to fit odd sized pans.

Am really going to have to look for one of these vintage combo units. So far the modern day incarnations leave me cold. Plus they all have turn tables.

Yes, it does pay to clean off spatters inside before the next use of the oven sets all that grease. Most every single vintage microwave/convection oven I've come across has grease and or food spatters do deep you'd need two cans of Bar Keeper's Friend to shift the gunk.

Thanks for the demo and snap.

Weep for Joy

I have long been annoyed by turntables and see them as having limited value.  I can't tell you how gratified I am to hear a microwave specialist agree.

Burned Out Motor

Ralph, your K4 was advertised as "runs but motor makes burning smell".  Perhaps because of that it was our good fortune to get it for a reasonable price and for all I can see it runs perfectly.  Are you ready to take delivery?

In a Word,

YES!

Whenever you find the time, I'm ready! And I will be in contact regarding compensation. It's not going to be cheap to ship.

Thanks Kelly, it looks to be in good shape for its age.

Ralph

Good Shape

The mixer came with a quilted plastic cover and it also has the can opener attachment.  There is some grunge in all the common areas but the paint is in good condition.  It ready to go and it's all yours.

Kelly, this is exciting! I will be in touch to discuss particulars.

I love that picture. It's like the mixer tableau version of Promontory Point!

Surgeon

They look like the before pictures in a plastic surgeons office wanting to have their noses altered.

Attached to Amana

Sadly, so is Greg.  When he saw me trying to sneak his Amana into the trunk of my car,  I was sternly advised to put down the microwave and step away.  In an effort to get me to leave I was offered this brand new Whirlpool, never unpacked, never plugged in and just waiting for the chance to go to a home that swings both ways, microwave and convection and for 3 ways we throw in the blend.  Its incredibly fast, the cavity is large enough to accomodate the largest casserole and there's no PITA turntable.  The Whirlpool microwave is just like Greg, grand, upright, powerful and needs a large opening to fit comfortably.
