For Sale: Maytag 1967 Washer & Dryer w/ Original Instruction Brochures!

My parents would like to "re-home" their 1967 "Spanish Avocado" Maytag Washer #KA606S and Dryer #KDG606.

I've included photos, inside and out, of the still functioning machines, along with photos of the brochures that originally came with these units.

I am not very familiar with vintage appliances, but I didn't want to see these on the "junk truck". I informed my parents I found this website of appliance enthusiasts, and that was the only way I could get my folks to part with these.

Not a bed looking set for machines that are 47 yrs old. Looks like they were well taken care of.

I wonder which stroke the washer has? Whether it's the long or short stroke because of the agitator that is in this machine.

Can't do much better than these, but why, oh why, did they have to replace that rare Power Fin agitator with that white monstrosity?

That replacement is what saved the washer most likely.

 

Once the stock of NOS and factory rebuilt pitman transmissions was depleted after the introduction of the orbital transmission in the summer 1989, repair techs were instructed to replace a failed pitman transmission with an orbital. This also required replacement of the agitator to go with the short-stroke transmission.

 

Given the fact that the short-stroke agitator in the machine is white and that they did NOT install a Load-Sensor agitator, I would date this rebuild roughly between 1993 and 1996.

well, the agitator replacement was based on two things, the size of the opening for loading, and 'lint filter'......just something people buy into....some are gullible...most important, this is a regular capacity (three holes on the agitator for the lint filter), the load sensor only fits the ExLarge capacity tubs...

when I went to order a load sensor for one of mine, it was told that it wont fit my machine, and also because there was no lint filter in a load sensor.....

that didn't stop me from getting one anyway......it worked and fit just fine, and didn't miss the idea of a lint filter....

the load sensor was used on the large opening machines, and with the so called self clean filters......

nothing we can't get around.....but it does look odd for that style of machine to have an orbital tranny/agitator

That's an early A606 with only 3 water levels (pre-Permanent Press), thus it is a large capacity machine. The other give-away that it's a an A606 is the separate "Soak" cycle. The A206 never had that. Also, the A206 was never offered with a white porcelain tub.

 

I think it's the angle of the pic that obscures the 4th water hole on the agitator.

Did anyone notice the pic of the gas burner? I spyed what I thought was the front seal for the drum hanging down near the burner. Methinks that the seal is nonexistant in the front. That dryer would need to be pulled apart to make sure it was safe to use or once it gets fired up one might have a good sized dryer fire on their hands....

My grandparents had nearly the same set only in white. Theirs only had three buttons on each side of the washer control. Small, medium or large load and hot, warm or cold wash as I recall. Would that be the A206? Seems like they weren't large capacity, had a black agitator and blue-ish colored tub. Probably purchased around 66 or 67. Replaced a pair of Westinghouse Laundromats. Who knows where they went. A farm household with 8 kids, 2 parents and 2 grandparents at one point; wash day was an all day event when everyone was growing up or later when everyone visited!

Nice looking set. Date code HB looks to be 1969 (H) January (B) following the date codes that started with the 1966 models.

Hi, I'm new to this forum and have appreciate reading the replys. My parents have the original sales slip dated 1967 for this purchase. They also have the original sales brochures that came with their new machines when purchased; my father saves everything!

My parents have been using this washer and dryer several days a week up until a few months ago. They have to relocate and need to part with these.

You will regret selling….Everything new is junk…..new machines dont even wash they only rince the clothes clean and your electric bill is higher due to 1 hour wash cycles….I would buy every set if they were in arizona..for some day people will beg for people to sell these...
