Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Wow, I didn't even notice that it's Electronic Control equipped until I saw the wire wound baffles. What a gorgeous, well taken care of dryer. Just stunning!

I'm so tempted... I have a matching A502

It's basically the same control system as on a D906 isn't it? The "dial" is just an ornament; it's those four buttons that choose a cycle and activate the dryer, yes?

Ken, yes. Also, they won't be an "exact" match because, your washer, the lower-half of the panel is blue and the dryer is, not blue. I can't describe the color from memory though.

"I have a DE-500 with Electronic Control and the copper wound fins, if you're interested."

Thanks a bunch for the offer Rich, but I need another dryer like I need another hole in my head, LOL. I just have a bleeding heart for these old Maytags and saved 4 of the 5 from heading straight to the crusher. Got a 142/700/702/160/900/902/906 washer I could buy from ya?

LOL. Dan, I understand. I thought I'd give you first pick since you're local...

Don't think I have any of the models you mentioned. I do have a couple of 606 washers, one with suds saver feature. Not sure what I'm gonna do with those at this point. The DE500 is an interesting unit and in pretty good shape, but I have yet to plug it in (previous owner said it ran fine) and it's basically in the way... along with a lot of other stuff ;-).

Good for you! That would be a mortal sin to a nice old Maytag be turned into tin foil. The electronic control Halo of Heats were small, but terrific dryers. Dead accurate on moisture, and very quiet and energy efficient. Only 18,000 BTU's. Keep savin' em!

I bought the machine, there was no way I'd let it go to

Whew, is that a relief! I was beginning to gather some phone #'s of family members that live several miles from you.

If you remove the rear panel for some inspection/cleaning, take a few pics for us. Use only turbine oil on the pulley bearings and Bakelite fan bearings. Every HOH set I've come across had bearing grease slathered on those points. Big no no, with the exception of the sliding shaft.

Rich (Sudsmaster), I actually stumbled upon your 606 thread from 1/16/06 today while doing some "Googling." Are you not pleased with their performance or are you getting a little overwhelmed with an overabundance of fun treasures?

Dan,

I've never run the 606 machines with hot water - just some test run with cold water from a hose in the yard. Both work, although one (the one w/o suds saver) dripped tranny oil and probably needs a new gasket/seal. I replaced the belts and it no longer slips when trying to spin. The suds saver on the 606S works also, but it needs proper drain hoses - has flimsy ones that collapse too easily on suction. It also needs new suspension felt pads - I bought the kit but haven't gotten around to replacing them yet. It leaks a little tranny oil as well but not as much as the other and hasn't needed a belt replacement.

I suppose I need to find an old water heater on CL and stick in the shop so I can do wash-ins there. There is a natural gas line back there, and in a pinch could probably run a small electric one as well. I was going to do a tankless but the gas line (3/4") supposedly isn't big enough for even a small gas tankless unit.

I just don't have any room to run a vintage machine that needs hot water. I run my Miele's in an unheated shop - they work fine because they have internal heaters.
