Help Support :

Well if yours is the type that used the push pin that expands tabs on the back then I would surmise you would follow the directions in the link and push the pin in so the support can be removed. [this post was last edited: 1/3/2017-18:12]

Your pic #3 shows one out of the fridge. Did you remove or was it already broken off and laying inside fridge when you got it? The fact it looks to be sitting flat would lead me to believe it doesn't have the tabs on the back?

I was wondering how the push pin type could hold much weight? The twist type was very common in that era. I'm not familiar enough with them to know when the push pin type started being used.

Would like to see the Norge Timeline WITHOUT music--its sounds are music to me-Mom had one of these!Liked watching it as a kid.The video did bring back memories from the depths of time!

Norge Refrigerator

Hi Ken! (and everyone)

Picture # 3= a piece of it was broken off. I put pliers on it and gently turned it counter clockwise. It turned, there was a dreadful crunch and it resulted in picture #4...what remains in the refrigerator wall.

Now I've attached some photos of the shelf and how it sits in that support
Photo one is of the shelf (pardon the counter clutter)
Photo two is the taped together support sitting on the shelf, as it sits in the frig
Photo tree is another angle of the same
Photo 4 is a so you can see where the pin parted ways with whats left in the frig wall.

If you enlarge photo one and read what it says on the frig "we have so much to be thankful for", that's how I feel about all the help you've given and the interest you've taken. THANKS SO MUCH!

PS is there a way to set something up on this forum that sends me an email or notification when there's a new post in a thread? Thanks!

Did you try removing what's left in the fridge wall? Can you get ahold of that with a plier and turn clockwise? We don't have the ability to subscribe to a particular thread to alert/notify when a new reply has been posted. Would be nice if that were possible. You'll have to make periodic checks on your thread to look for any new replies.

Norge Refrigerator Support Post

Hello Ken!
So the inside of that frig is enamel. There isn't enough sticking out for me to grab and turn, neither is there enough room around the post to stick in a needle nose pliers and turn, unless it would be like a jeweler's size pliers? I'm worried about chipping the enamel. I'm wondering if I had a narrow dremel tool and could sort of shave away at the edge to enlarge the hole, then grab it and turn.
Going to ask my electrician son if he's got any tools that might work, but that is a great idea...

After I get it out, then I need to figure out replacements...aaagh.

It would be good if you could retrieve the piece rather than losing it inside as that would confirm what locking style it is. Then you would know what you're working with as to what is needed or would work for replacement.

Norge Refrigerator Shelf Support

Hi Ken,
I am going to try, as that was my thought from the outset. Going to take goat farmer's advice about which direction to turn it in. Hopeful I may be able to retrieve on of the others, intact. Will take photos and post when I have them,
and, THANK YOU again!!
Today was the day to go and do it, it was 50 degrees outside, but I didn't have 2 seconds to spare. Stay tuned!

If there is one of those broken near the front, would you be comfortable with taking off the plastic trim piece, that goes between the liner, and the cabinet? You might be able to retrieve a broken piece that way.

However, that vintage plastic trim may also be fragile, and cause more problems than you solve.

Norge Refrigerator Shelf Support

Hi Goatfarmer
Yes I would, except they're in the back. Bummer right?
Hoping to back off of my anxiety and approach this with a solid plan. Going to try and get one of the other ones off, turning it clockwise as you advised.
As Ken said if I can get one out intact, it will solve the mystery as to what type of pin it is, and what type of shelf support maybe I can cut with a tool to make it work.
Thanks to you too for all your help!
