Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

WHOA! I missed this ad on my Northeastern patrol of craigslist. I'll be making contact for sure! Hope they don't want to sell as a set only.

I think my washer collection has become too Whirlpool-heavy and needs some diversity!! LOL

Let me know what you hear about the location... I am interested in the fridge and had contacted them a while back, but it (and the washer) were located in a basement with challenging access... but perhaps they have extricated them which would make it worth the drive for me to grab the fridge!

Will do, Jeff! Phil (PhilR) and I have had to do minor home renovations on some of our rescue missions. If the refrigerator doors come off, though, that would definitely help getting it out of a basement.

I am the proud owner of that Frig

Hi all, I am new here, but that very frig is now my own as of today :-) My husband and son very kindly struggled to get that out of the basement! The owner told me about the gentleman in this thread who drove down from Canada for the washer!

I am looking for a repairman's manual for it--if anyone can point me in the right direction. Can anyone point me in the direction of anyone who owns one of these and can trade tips with me? For instance I looked down underneath by the compressor and wasn't sure if there was supposed to be insulation down in there because I saw some remnants of insulation.

After I test it to see it's working properly, planning to have it painted on the outside--red---to go with my butter yellow sink from the 30's or 40's and my 1943BZ Yellow Chambers Stove.

I have a 1953 GE double door refrigerator and I have a repairman's manual for it, that I would be happy to scan and send to anyone interested

Thank you!

Congratulations!!

I am glad to hear the Norge fridge found a good home and you didn't get hurt getting it out of the basement! Have fun with your new toy!!

I' ll tell '8 of 56' that its former roomate has a new home, too. LOL

Thank you!

Hi there!
Thank you so much! Now that I have it home, I am seeing the issues that run deeper than a door gasket and a paint job.
These frigs do not seem to be plentiful, thus obscure parts like broken shelf pins are going to take some ingenuity on my part to replace!

I was fortunate enough to find repair manuals for Norge frigs up to 1948, hopeful that at the least it will give me some guidance.

The owner said you sent her a video of the washer sent to music? If you still have that, you could pm me @ [email protected]

Thanks so much!

NEED NORGE REFRIGERATOR SHELF SUPPORTS

Hi Folks,
I'm needing 4 shelf support posts for a Norge Refrigerator. I think it's a 58 or 59 and it's a Norge Customiser.
The photos are of the shelf support in the frig, and the broken part on my counter, and then the broken piece inside the frig that I have no clue how to get it out, so any suggestions about that would be awesome. I'm feeling fairly positive that potentially I could use a different brand shelf support. These shelves slide in and out.
Thanks to each and all for your help!

Norge Refrigerator Shelf Supports

I agree with you. I have 2 people on standby who will machine these out of aluminum for me if we can figure out how they attach to the frig and come up with something viable for that.
It's been suggested to me to 1) tap them out with a very fine nail 2) use a screw extractor to get them out, 3) use a hair dryer and some WD40 to coax them out.
The issue being they're all cracked so the minute you put a pliers on them to get them out, they crumble....

Ideas invited!

Second what Kenny said. That support pin looks like the type that has a stiff wire at the bottom. It binds against the outer surface of the liner to make it tight when installed in hole and then turned. Turn back 90 degrees and they come right out.

Norge Refrigerator

Thanks Goatfarmer & Ken!

Now I feel stupid. I turned it counter clockwise. Partly because there is some sort of metal shield behind the left and right side top supports so you couldn't turn it clockwise without taking that shield off first. So I used logic and said, no way are you supposed to turn it in clockwise direction. Now we all know some people practice faulty logic hmmmm :-)
I know, I picture would help :-) I will post one tomorrow when it's not raining, frig is stowed in a trailer.

So are you saying it's clockwise on both sides, left and right?
Or is it clockwise on one side and counter clockwise on the other?

Many Thanks!

PS I dated this from a newspaper ad I found online. Model CTS 138, 1960

Here are some pics and links that will give you an idea of what Kenny and I were referring to. After you get them removed compare to replacements available online. You just might find a replacement that will work for you.

From second link below:

There are 2 common types of systems used to retain shelf support pegs. One has a center plastic plunger that when inserted causes barbs on the support's base to expand and lock the peg into place.

This type can often be identified by looking for evidence of a (now filled) center hollow. To remove these the center plunger has to be pushed right through the support peg using an awl or similar tool, to release the barbs.

To remove these the center plunger has to be pushed right through the support peg using an awl or similar tool, to release the barbs.

The other common type is twisted into place. To remove these, the very base of the peg needs to be grasped with a pair of pliers and twisted. Blunt nosed pliers work best for this when held perpendicular to the refrigerator interior's surface.

Once grasped firmly, the peg needs to be rotated clockwise 90° to release the support peg's retaining wires. After this is done, the peg should be loose and able to be maneuvered. The loose support may have to be manipulated slightly to align the retaining wires through the 'keyhole' slot it's mounted in. Once this is done, the old support can be removed.

To install the replacement, insert the new part in the 'keyhole' shaped hole and again holding the base securely, rotate the peg 90° clockwise. It should now be tightly held in place.

Wow Ken and Goatfarmer, Again, THANKS!

With a prayer or many prayers, some WD 40, and a hair dryer I'm going to go out tomorrow with the right tool and will attempt to extract one the right way.

No faulty logic excuses. And I'll have to remove that metal shield in the back first.

So mine definitely has that little "filled" center hole described. Does that mean that I just push that through, presto chango alakazoo it just goes into never never land inside the frig, is this cool?

Looking at the pics that Ken sent me, I'm thinking that maybe just maybe with a dremel tool, one of those could be cobbed to work.

On the Appliance Aid website it looks most like the one in the very bottom right corner.

Wish me luck! I know my husband thinks I'm totally nuts. That's okay. When his dinners start coming out of that frig he's going to change his mind fast.
