couple of freezer shelves are missing

Maybe not. It could be the right number of shelves, with options for different configurations. I like that fridge a lot!

How I LUST for this refrigerator!

There's another Foodarama for sale in Kentucky that I stumbled upon the other day. I don't think it's the same one though.

This 1956 model looks very complete. Juice containers, fruit basket, and butter and cheese trays. The shelves that are currently in the freezer are fixed shelves. They have the coils running underneath them. There are two adjustable shelves missing, but this is something that I could get over because it's in such good shape otherwise.

The last Foodarama on ebay with all of the rare extras (juice containers, etc.) was not running and sold for the buy-it-now price of $2000 (maybe more, I can't remember). I'm watching this one, getting a shipping quote to determine how much I can bid (if any).

There is another Foodarama in San Marcos, Texas on craigslist (search Austin craigslist to find it - my mouse broke and I cannot right click to copy a link). I think I see the pitchers in the photo but I'm not sure. I called and he wants $2400.00 for it. Ouch. Missing fridge door shelves and the same two freezer shelves as the one on ebay. He said it has been repainted but the door gaskets, while sealing ok, will need replacing.

like moving a pallet of bank safes...

I remember several of these coming in as trade-ins back in the late 60's/early 70's atthe appliance store I worked at while I was in high school...I moved a lot of heavy stuff, gas ranges with trash burners (cast iron), Maytag Dutch Oven stoves (more cast iron,) mile-long chest freezers...but nothing was as heavy as an early Kelvinator Foodarama...so $500 to another state seems like a bargain...I say go for it, especially since you can store freezer wrap in the built-in dispenser and ripen bananas in the "banana bin"...and where are you gonna find one of these that still has the butter dish?
