...I thought I'd post this ebay listing, a very nice KitchenAid Model F classic mixer and a boat load of accessories. The ad says the mixer is from an estate sale. I don't suppose it will sell for a bargain price but you never know.

WOW!

Looks like they used that mixer for everything.  I love the shifter for the speed control.  What's the gadget behind the mixer with the crank on it?

I'm adding this to my watch list just to see how much it goes for.

gadget with the crank..

If i rememder correctly, that gadget is called a Salad Master. the grandfather of a Salad Shooter basicallly. The cone shaped grater cylinders in the picture fit it, and one turns the crank. Other than being powered by a crank, it operates exactly like the grater attachment on a Kitchenaid mixer.

The mother of a highschool friend had one, and used it all the time, cooking for her brood of 4 boys, and all their friends. Their home had origionally belonged to his great grandmother, and her 2 spinster sisters, and was like a time capsule. The kitchen was done in youngstown metal cabinets, with a red and marbled grey checkerboard linoleum, and a 40 inch GE pushbutton range. The furniture was almost all antiques from the turn of the century, (marble topped dressers, clawfoot picture frame sofa, 4 poster beds, the works). The vacuum was an Electrolux G, stored in the upstairs landing closet, in its original box after each use. Ancient oil painting portraits, and turn of the century photos on every wall. It was their home that first showed me the possibilities of living in an all vintage home.

The 4 little cones to the left of the mixer belong to the hand cranked slicer/shredder,, the 2 drums beside them are the graters for the KA's attachment that is sitting to the right of the balloon whisk.

I'm not sure what that attachment with the big hopper is, sitting on the front right. Some sort of grinder

Thanks for the info on the "Salad Shooter" attachment.  I was curious because it has "arms" like the mixer so I presume it accommodates a mixing bowl somehow.

The item on the far right with the hopper is the grain mill, and it's one of the most expensive attachments.  Today's version is very much unchanged from the one pictured.

So it appears that at some point KA dropped the drum-shaped graters in favor of the tapered slicer/shredder "cones" and changed the shape of the housing accordingly.

Model F

I have one of these, and let me tell you, none of the new machines compare to it,the motor runs one speed, and is very quiet, when you shift that thing into low gear, cement wouldnt slow it down!

change to tapered cones

The change made sense really. When on uses the tapered shredder/grater cones, the food follows the taper, sliding right out into the bowl. With the original drum style, the food tumbles abut inside the drum, almost like clothes in the dryer, until either its forced out by the amount you have shredded, cleared out by hand, or worst of all, (and this was a real danger with cheese if you didnt pay attention to what you were doing), packs tightly into the drum, mushing together.

SaladMaster

It is a SaladMaster and I have my mom's. I use it all the time. She bought it (I really think it was a "gift" for hostessing a SaladMaster sales dinner in our home) in 1960 and has been used hard. Her brother and his wife always borrowed it every summer to shred cabbage to make tons of sauerkraut. My sister likes it so well that when we found one at a yard sale for $10.00!!!, she bought it...lol. They are indestructible with proper care. SaladMaster was/is? a brand of high end stainless cookware sold only in the home.

Once Again The Power Of AutomaticWasher.org

While it can never be said with certainty that listing an auction on this site increases interest, said listing went from nil to >$300 within one day.

If form follows history the thing will probably magically vanish under "listing ended because item is no longer available". *LOL*
