My Dad was driving home the other night and he spotted this Maytag on the side of the road at the bottom of a farm driveway with a "FREE WORKING" sign on it. So knowing how I like these old washers he put it in the back of his truck and brought it home for me. It's an A608 in pretty decent shape with the exception of the odd scratch and ding. More importantly though it works perfectly. no water leaks, no oil leaks, and no sluggish agitation. I set it up in the back yard, gave it a quick wipe down, ran a maintenance load, and then I ran a few real loads through it. The serial number is 591351 CH or CN the last letter was a bit scuffed, can anybody date it? I'm not sure what I'm going to do with this machine, I may part it out for spares for my A806, or just keep it as it is for a backup washer, Any ideas? Anyway here are a few pics.

Cheers
Liam

The 608 is only one step down from TOL, so either keep as a working unit or sell it to someone who will appreciate it.

Thank you for giving me the date Rich. I think I'm going to put it in to storage and keep it the way it is. It's too nice a machine to part out.

Yay - the agitator came out! ;-)

It all depends on space and time. If you've got the space, and the time, may as well keep it for a while. If you are lacking on either - pass it on to someone else, or use it for parts. One of these days big load tubs like those -in that shape - may become scarce!

BTW - loved the shot with the lid open, and washing, from behind. Very cool.
