Drum finish.....

It's either baked enamel or acrylic. Later machines had powder coated drums from 1984 or so. The enamel or acrylic finishes can be repained with spray cans of FSP drum paint, but I've heard of mixed results with it.

This is a very nice machine Drew. I saw it on CL as well. Can the bulkhead on these machines be repainted with a paint that won't chip off. Epoxy?? This has a beautiful control panel. I remember these machines and more of that era well. They were very quiet and had a nice soft heat. We had a 1972 Whirlpool dryer with the variable speed tumbling. It had a lever that you moved up and down on the right side of the control panel. It was a great dryer. Thanks again for everything. Dan

Sooner than later, if I'm any judge of Gordon's persistance. He'll be the proud papa of this one, too. If this keeps up, I'll have to look into one of those air powered delivery systems between Reno and Charlotte kinda like the one at the drive thru window at the bank. Just drop an appliance into the cartridge and push the 'send' button...

I hear ya. I keep waiting for that super fax machine in the Chrighon novel and film, Timeline, where you can basically fax yourself--or a washing machine (yuk yuk)--back and forth thru time. Imagine how easy wash-in travel would be: we'd all just fax ourselves. We could have them all the time. Come to Buffalo for a couple hours this afternoon. I've got ten loads to do. Okay I'm free. RHEEEEEEEEEEE. Here I am. YAY

Appnut re: Roberta

"I'd forgotten about this until now, but our washer arrived in February or March of 1971. My mom had a parakeet named Roberta whose cage hung in the breakfast room next to the laundry room. She'd start chirping and singing away when the Kenmore finished draining the tub of water and also while it was spinning. I guess that famous Kenmore pitch just got her to singing. It was kinda funny."

I wonder if maybe the sound of the pump after the tub was drained made Roberta sing. WP/KM machines from that time had pumps that were well-heard when starved for water. According to Gordon (KenmoreGuy), WP made numerous different pumps through the years, some louder than others. I recall some non-suds-saver Inglis/KM washers made in the early 70's with pumps that made a rhythmic noise (glurrrk-glurrrk-glurrrk) that would definately get a parakeet's attention.
