The only thing that does not work on this oven is the oven door spring/cable on the top oven. My appliance repairman says that the replacement part that is needed is no longer available. A local fixit guy suggested a Rube Goldberg remedy, but I think it is time for a new oven(s). This oven is located in Arroyo Grande, California, adjacent to Pismo Beach.

I would!!!

Go for the Rube Goldberg repair, because you sure are not going to get anything as good today!! Wish i was closer i would take it in a minute!!

Look Long and Hard.....

....At the old part. Take it to your local hardware store.

It's amazing how often stuff is made of common parts combined - a good hardware guy just might know that this part is an XYZ widget crimped onto a 123 gizmo.

Also, taking a pic and posting it here might bring up some knowledge you could benefit from....

Hans is right - nothing new is going to be that good.

The Miami house had an earlier version of that oven. Same thing happened to door. Aunt refused to part with it and used pipe cleaners to keep it closed for years. It was a terrific oven, complete with built in venting. Finally replaced with updated Thermador, it was just ok.

Whirlpool or KitchenAid 24" Stainless Steel Double Built

So, I have been researching which double oven will fit into the opening the present Thermador is filling, and both the double oven Whirlpool and KitchenAid require a cut out just a little bit bigger, and that can work. I did read online very critical reviews for both of these ovens, and that concerns me. Do any of you have experience with recent oven models of either of these brands?

Please!

If you don't feel you can fix the Thermador, I understand, but fa goodnitz sakes, find another vintage unit! GE's are reasonably plentiful and parts are still decently available.

If you go new, you're opening up a whole can of worms with electronic motherboards and slipshod engineering. Everything will be cut to the absolute minimum, such as oven insulation. Anything that used to require adjustment is now blamed on the motherboard, and replacing it under warranty never solves the problem, it seems. There is a reason for the huge numbers of negative reviews current products get.

A new unit might be okay for Ms. Average Housewife, who is replacing a unit perhaps ten years old and was never used to real quality in the first place, but you know better. And you will rue the day, trust me.

Try this site for parts

I was able to get a new thermostat for my oven from this company. Everywhere else I went said it was discontinued. Superior had one in stock. The rep said that they special order discontinued parts from the manufacturer as a bulk order and that they specialize in older appliances. Said that their company even restores older stoves. They might have the part that you need.

Contact

You might have to call/email them. The part might not be listed on the web page. That's the way I found out about them having the part that I needed.
