You're right. They are a SQ/Whirlpool pairing. How is that people do not bother to look at the nameplates of the machines they are selling so they don't misrepresent them? I can understand to some extent how people can misassess the age in some of these ads, but the brand? At least the price is reasonable for both of them.

James, it's kinda like all brands of refrigerators were referred to as "the Frigidaire" by a lotta people. "Lemme get you some lemonade out of the Frigidaire". Kinda like in the south, a lotta people call just about any soda a Coke. "Wanna Coke?" "Yeah, what all do ya have to chose from."

Point taken. It is true that a number of people categorize a product by a brand name. Kleenex comes to mind when referring to tissues, and I have seen a couple of TV shows where a washer was referred to as a Maytag even though the one shown was clearly not one. My grandmother used to make the Frigidaire generality for every refrigerator she had, and when we had our Kenmore washer and dryer, my mother referred to them a few times as being Whirlpool. I agree with you that this is most likely the case with the seller of these machines. All I am saying is if someone is going to publicly advertise a product for sale they should take a closer look at the brand name to be sure they do so correctly. It could avoid an uncomfortable situation should a potential buyer take issue with the actual brand names being different from the ones posted.
While I am thinking about it, another generalization that comes to mind is how an elevator on a TV show is sometimes referred to as an Otis. Of course there are other elevator companies, but because Otis is best known, it gets the reference.

James, I know what you mean. I hear people refer to all sorts of items by their trademark name such as:
"Jello" for gelatin,
"Scotch tape" for adhesive tape,
"Crescent" or "Allen" wrenches,
"Tupperware" or "Rubbermaid" for reusable plastic containers,
"Oreos" for sandwich creme cookies,
"Comet" for scouring cleanser,
"Windex" for window cleaner,
"S.O.S. pad" for a steel wool pad,
"Styrofoam" for foam containers,
"Downy" for fabric softener,
and the list goes on and on. It may be a bit strange to try and think of all the examples of this but there are many, that is for sure

It happens all over
I was seling a washer/dryer on craigs list......
3 times in the ad I posted that it was a GAS dryer...
told the guy on the phone it was a GAS dryer.....
came to the house, paid me, we loaded them on his truck, and he noticed the 110 cord on the dryer, and commented how small the cord was compared to his old one.....
That's because a GAS dryer does not need 220 power....
He replied "I didn't know it was a GAS dryer, I only have electric service"
He even printed out the ad and brought it with him!

He couldn't figure this out, but he knew "who lived in a pineapple under the sea"
