Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

That floor is in unbelievable shape for the age. I had a very similar floor that was in my kitchen from 1973 until about two years ago. Near the end it had so many holes and tears. It was curling up in multiple spots and needed replaced. I would have bought something like it if they still sold vinyl like that. I went with laminate because I couldn't find any "Old fashion ugly vinyl." There are companies that would have replicated and reproduced it, but that was BIG money.

That is very similar to the range that John has in his kitchen. You think it is neat, but if you use the oven much, take a second look and consider how low you have to bend to get stuff in and out of the oven and how often you will have to bend over to use the surface unit dials. One thing really neat about the range is that it came with a pipe that went into the oven vent under the right rear (I think) surface unit to carry self cleaning smoke up to where it was captured by the range hood. It was remarkably effective.

Barry- I don't know that it's abused so much as it's just.......... awkward and kind of unattractive.   Too many knobs.  Someone bent the handle probably from uninstalling it.

Gansky- "Butter burner"?  I like that idea.  perfect for a 2 cup pan for melting pup corn butter.   I wonder if it's really as small as it looks and if it's just a on-off low wattage type deal.

Oliger- What does that say that a vynil sheet floor from 1973 lasted nearly 50 years. There are still some sheet flooring available that is 'tolerable' but the shiny  bright stuff from the 80s and 90s I have not been able to find.  Though I have found remnants.

I've seen those 'laminate' floors.  They are certainly easy to install but as soon as any moisture gets into any of the MANY seams, the cheap particle board is swelling on the edges.  They won't last 50 years.  At least they are easy to UNinstall.

Butter burner

I've never heard it called that.

John L. set me up with a 30" stainless Thermador cooktop with that burner for the country house. I had one before and loved it. The little burner has (at least mine did) a full infinite control like the others. It's perfect for boiling up a small pot of tea or heating something up in a Corning Ware petit pan.

Thermador 30" True Drop-In Range

This is a built-in range that must hang from the counter-top and it comes with percent steel covered power cable that must be direct wired to the power supply like a wall oven.

This is an early version about 1970, I have the same range in my kitchen that was built about 1972.

This is a well built and designed range with many high quality features, Features that are also found of TD CTs and WOs of the same time period. TD built the best BI cooking appliances in North America, there were other good brands but none offered more features at such a high quality level.

Butter Burner, LOL

This is the era during which French Chef Julia Child was becoming legendary. Maybe people were melting a lot of butter then, and Thermador wanted to be cutting edge and chic.

Somewhere, back in the 80s, I have seen the 4 inch surface unit with a chrome or stainless steel collar around it, sort of like the 6 inch deepwell elements with the collar around them to fit the deepwell opening when used as a 4th surface unit. The 4 inch unit with the collar was so that the 4 inch unit could go in the place of a 6 inch surface unit.

St. Charles Kitchens introduced me to these beauties

These were Dream Stoves of mine; I was too young to buy them and put them away for my future or I would have. They made two models: one with the butter burner (well spotted, Greg) and one with 3 6-inch burners, only one 8-inch burner and an electric griddle/grill. They had wonderful big wide ovens and matched the Thermador wall ovens at the time. Kills me when I think what we had back then and can't understand why we can't have them now.

Julia Child had the 7 burner cooktop with the butter burner and I would trade ANYTHING made today for one of those cooktops.Unfortunately Thermador replacement parts always cost 4 times what other brands charged. This brochure gives you the Slide-in stoves (plus one with a ceramic burner top)and gives you an idea of the range of cooktop styles but is too late for Julia's 7-burner model:

Ken,

I don't know where in CT you're located; but maybe West Springfield, MA wouldn't be too far from you?
And, assuming that you'd have a way to haul it.
Maybe you could bring it back to life before a scrapper gets it.
Just a thought.
