Hey Fellas,

I hope you are all doing well! Long time no speak. Anyways, I've been cleaning house and have a lovely 1950-ish Kenmore vacuum model 116.716 that works, but could use a little cosmetic TLC. It belonged to a good friend/fellow member's grandmother and would be a great addition to anyone's vacuum collection. Would anyone be interested or know someone who would be? Pass this along to vacuumland please duel members, I can't seem to log on over there. There is only one catch (hence the "*"), you have to pay for shipping or stop by Hampton, VA for pick up.

WOW!

That is a bizarre looking kenmore! Love it! If I had some extra money to spend at the moment I would get it. I am sure someone would love it! Never seen one like it.

These old kenmores really were in a level of their own. Love their imperial bugeye model too. Just simple, yet strange!

Wow, haven't thought about it in years, but as a little kid we had the same unit! Does it have a small clear window in front with a light? If so I bet it's exactly the same. Seem to remember a fork like thing to attach the hose to.

Here is an old kenmore I passed up 2 years ago. It reminds me of a hoover 150. But just a little different! Thats what makes kenmores cool!

Obviously yours is much nicer!

Matt, you are correct. It does have a little light in the front.

Guy, I'm glad your interested, I emailed you back. I hope it works out!

Brandon, the rubber on the one you have pictured is in better shape, but mine's has pretty nice plastic. :)

I think kenmore had the coolest design of bumpers back in the 20s and 30s. Kenmore really took hoovers styling, and expanded it, and created something unique, and you dont see these to often. Yours is really an excellent looking example.

It reminds me of the hoover 28/27 styling.

Back then I think it was a genuine kenmore manufactured product. Could be wrong. The history of kenmore vacuums isn't as clear as say hoovers.

To the best of my knowledge, Sears never totally owned any appliance manufacturing facilities. They have however owned substantial interest in some of their suppliers, such as Whirlpool. What percentage of Whirlpool they presently hold (if any) I have no idea, but was told by a Sears Catalog store owner in the mid 70's that it was a majority interest at that time. Can't verify the accuracy of that statement.

I think they did wholly own their paint manufacturing business at one time. From what I remember it became DeSoto Paint and Chemical. The paint division was sold off to Sherwin-Williams several years ago, and industrial chemicals to PPG I think. This left DeSoto as the maker of their laundry detergent (Ultra Plus).
