Fridgidaire 1 to 18 dryer

Does anyone have a heating element for a 1 to 18 dryer or a part number that I can try to cros reference for a new one? This set is beginning to really frustrate me! I bought them for $50.00 less than an hour from me. I brought them home and hooked up the washer which ran flawlessly but this dryer has fought me all the way. Its a match to the washer and both cabinets are in good shape or I would have scraped it but now I'm in to deep. I have replaced the rollers, felt seals, the idler pulley, belt, and thermostat, and now realize the heater coil is broken!

There are generic element restring kits available if a compatible can be had ... match the wattage.

Hi Jeffery, The one listed on eBay is not an OEM one but it should work.

 

I have a new real one I can ship you for $40 + shipping if you still need it.

 

As I said earlier these dryers are troublesome, I have had a FD poppy electric dryer in the2nd house for 30 years and even though it gets little use I have repaired it at least 6 times over that time period, and it always makes all sorts of funny noises, If I did not have the matching washer I would never have kept this dryer.

I’m sure everyone here who has ever tried to resurrect a vintage washer or dryer that is at least 40 years old has felt your pain. I know I have! But I love these vintage machines so much that when one frustrates me like that I just set it aside for a while and play with another one. You’ll get them operating like you want them to eventually. Thank you guys for the offer but I found one on line before I read your posts. As the story continues lets just say it is a good thing I can't pick this dryer up and chuck it outside any easier than I can or it would be out there probably dowsed with a gallon of gasoline and set on fire! As I had it apart I notice the back (where the heat enters the tub) was coated with a thick white substance, and I thought maybe something very delicate had touch it during the regular cycle but it wasn't burned or scorched. It came off easily with an ammonia soak and scrub brush. Today when I got back to it I found the lint screen was so coated that it would hold water!!! Evidently the owner was a big dryer sheet fan and used a lot of them which coated the lint screen decreasing air flow so the back got hot enough to melt the sheets/softener. In trying to clean the lint screen it started to come out of the frame and tear. Now I am on the hunt for a 1 to 18 lint screen. I have already done a dance naked around the dryer to appease the Frigidaire dryer gods ( on hindsight this may have irritated them, I've seen myself naked) but does anybody out there have a spare lint filter ?!?

Appnut- At this point, if I ever get this thing up and running, I might post videos of the "Naked dance to Appease the Frigidaire dryer Gods" so others may learn it, and call on the gods if needed. Believe me, if the sight of me dancing naked will appease the dryer gods, ANYBODY can appease the dryer gods!
