I'd like to like them but always find them bitter. Does anyone else?

cut into slices and put them in a dish, salts well ... so leave them for a two hours and drain them from the water which issued and bitterness will go away ...

I LOVE fried green tomatoes. Last summer I had a hankering so bad but couldn't find anyone making them so I made my own, I found a simple recipe that I liked and they turned out perfect. I just dipped them in egg and dipped them in the flour which I believe was seasoned with pepper, salt, and some other spices and fried them in a pan. Nice light crust and tasted delicious.

Steel Magnolias

No Mike I did not.

The charm of that town does live on and most of it is captured in the movie. It is impressive how the town decorates for Christmas every year, the movie showed just a small fraction of what transpires during that festival! We have events like it all over the state commemorating many things from the pralines to alligators.

Clementine Hunter grew up on a plantation not far away from Natchitoches also

Those are really pretty tomato slices.

Coming from the "deep south" those were a staple when I was growing-up. My parents wouldn't touch them, but, to me they were the perfect side dish at breakfast. The housekeeper taught me how to make them the traditional southern way. The left-overs made a great sandwich at lunch time with lots of mayonnaise and black pepper.

Always looking to try new things, so I will give your recipe a try.
Thank you for sharing!

Surely the American recipe of fried green tomatoes will be much tastier than mine, this is the Italianate version eheheheh .. Where?

Do you find them? Being from NJ, there was always a bumper crop of tomatoes of all kinds during the summer. My co-workers always brought me some. I just used to slice them kinda thick, toss with flour, S&P, then fry carefully in oil. Drain on paper towels placed over newspaper. Delicious.

Since I've moved to SoFl, I haven't seen green tomatoes offered anywhere.
