HEY, JUST WORKING ON REPLACING DOOR BOOT ON GALLAXY!!!

EITHER I'M DOING SOMETHING WRONG (VERY LIKELY) BUT I CAN'T SEEM TO GET BOOT STARTED ON INSIDE DRUM, USING REFERENCE POINTS PROVIDED, FINGERS TOO BIG AND THERE'S NOT ALOT OF ROOM,
ANY SUGESSTIONS WOULD BE VERY MUCH APPRECIATED

Sometimes it's a good idea to tilt the machine back towards the wall so it gives you more space between the front of the tub and the front panel. The ONLY way i got mine on was to remove the front panel, and then you have a wide open space to work in. I found the hardest part was getting the door boot spring on. They give you rubber spacers to hold the spring at the top, but it always slips out and the spacers go flying.

About how often does that boot fail, and need to be changed? Thanks alr2903

Since I am a appliance tech, the machine I replaced the boot on was used in a dry cleaning setting. The boot had thinned out and had torn due to constant use. They had also burnt out the motor, so that had to be replaced as well. But that's how I learn about newer machines. Also sometimes the boot gets wrinkled so that water pools on the bottom of the boot and then will leak out the bottom of the door.

With average in home use, on average how long before you have problems with a boot before it would start to leak? just average ballpark? I would like a f/l and i just wondered. Thanks. alr2903

To put the boot on, use dish washing detergent like Joy or Dawn all the way around the crease of the seam of the new boot that goes around the outer tub! Hold one hand in one spot and press with the other until the boot is completely on!

Take your time and trust me, it works!

alr2903----- My former FL, a 1996 Frigidaire is still going strong in a 2-family apartment unit and has not needed a boot replacement. Unless you're really hard on the boot itself, it should last many years before needing replacement. Toward that aim, gently dry water off the boot after your last load of the day. Don't rub the boot! I also leave the door on my machine slightly ajar to help dry the interior of the machine to prevent musty odors. (I now have a 2003 Frigidiare FL).

What kind of FL washer do you have?

I have an amana t/l now but wondered about, how long that rubber boot would remain pliable and in good shape, My childhood washer was a westy spacemate, and i remember my parents having that boot replaced 2 or 3 times. I am very interested in the new f/l'rs with there hi speed spins. I heat water with electric, and have an electric dryer, and I continue to consider it, for the savings. My Amana is Lwa65aw, its never been worked on, it is noisy, but is in a enclosed back porch area, so thats not an issue. The amana is about 9-10 years old My main interest is savings on electric. I have a 20 year old Westinghouse spacemate washer and dryer. I have never had the boot replaced and it looks as good as the day it was new. Granted I don't do tons of washing, about 5-6 loads a week. I too always dry the boot after the last load and leave the door ajar. Terry

And think of the other benefit of leaving the door open: Your cat has a cool place to hang out, just as long as you look before tossing your clothes in.
