Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

OK....dryer all cleaned out, for what little there was, hooed up, runs quiet and smooth.....

issue I am not sure about, or if it really is one.....of course its time dry only, the igniters are different than what you would expect, they buzz in a split second, and flame appears.....but does not seem to stay on for very long, maybe only two minutes, it does cycle on and off, but far and few inbetween, almost drying the clothes on a really low temp, temp selector is set to high, takes about 90 minutes for a load of clothes to dry.....

is this normal, or should I be checking for a sensor that is not working correctly?.....this is my first dryer of this type, and not sure of what is normal....

thanks for any info

Late 60s Frigidaire Gas Dryer

Hi Martin, with a full load of wet clothing the flame should not shut off for probably at least the first half of the drying cycle.  Like with any dryer try running the machine with any vent to make sure your vent system is not causing this problem, beyond vent problems you may have some lint buildup in the air-duct below the door leading to the blower and most likely the rear drum seal is worn, anyone of these problems will cause the gas burner to cycle on the burner hi-limit thermostat. Frigidaire had a lot of problems with rear drum seals on this style gas dryer [ much like MT had with the seals on their HOH gas dryers ] so it was very common for customers to complain that it was a SLOW dryer.

Thanks John......

I will check these things out.....I thought during the first part of the cycle it should have stayed on longer....just wanted to make sure......

Thanks again....if anyone knew, it would be you...
