Frigidaire Bearing Hitch Dryer knocking/chattering sound.

I have recently acquired a stainless steel drum for this machine. It's interchangeable. But today I throw a load of towels in for the first load in a while and it starts making this noise. I think it might be the front glides on the drum and if so I will just put the glides from the other drum back onto this one. Otherwise I think it's the bearing itself. Although the bearing was well lubricated. The Drum rides smoothly on the front and rear so I don't think that the drum is cracked or chipped. It only starts making the sound when it gets hot. I can't see if the idler pulley is bouncing or not. I think it's probably the glides. Rotating the drum by hand I hear the sound when it's in a certain position.

Strange Frigidaire dryer noise

Sounds like somethings caught in the front bearing in the felt or there’s something wrong with the bearing strips you didn’t give them model number so I can’t really look it up and see what system this one uses.

I’m sure it’s fixable but these dryers really aren’t worth a lot of fixing as they age.

I don’t understand why anybody into appliances would ever mess with one of these dryers we work on them every day there’s nothing special that’s for sure.

Some people are into the machines from the early 2000’s and to each their own, but appliances from that time aren’t that interesting plus were cheaply made and tended to wear out fairly quickly. I was born in ‘99 but am more nostalgic for things made decades before I came into this world, I simply don’t have any nostalgia for anything bland/boring from the 2000’s and on. It’s 1980’s and older for me.

Hi Kelly, either has something to do with that front bearing ring this model does have the two separate plastic slide rings sections, sometimes there’s a little piece of metal or something caught in the felt on the front of the machine interfering with those plastic rings.

It’s either that or you’ve got loose screws in the rear bearing plate where it attaches to the drum could also be something wrong with the heating element baffle that screwed to of the back of the drum.

In any event it should not be difficult to take it apart and see what’s wrong.

Fixed the issue

The drum was a little bent and so it would get hot and expand just a millimeter and it was scraping against the front.(not where the metal is or the plastic blower housing, The cover where the moisture sensor wires are, Just barely too.) The back panel was a little bowed in so my dad and I pushed it back out and now it's all quiet. I did check the felt and the front glides for foreign objects and it was a clear.
