Frigidaire Cassette Player?

Just found this ad on Tumblr. Never heard of the cassette player in the door before. Did/does anyone have or have seen one of these in the wild before? I can't imagine they sold very many with this feature.

The electronics

I wonder if Delco electronics supplied the radio / cassette units? I don't believe cassettes were offered in GM cars at the time yet.

I would love to have one of them to check out. As a GM car guy I could tell for sure if any automotive parts were used in the radio cassette mechanism as well.

Any idea the year range for this?

If I ever saw one of these, it would have been on the display floor at Swallen's.

I well remember the magazine ads for them, though. I'm thinking it was around the time I graduated from high school, or a little later, which would be between '74 and '77. This ad shows it in the Poppy color with shading, which could be no later than early '77.

I'm surprised they were able to get away with repurposing the RCA-Victor trademark for that ad.

I went back and took another look at the original Tumblr post. It was a 1974 ad.

Wow, almost 48 years since this ad ran in magazines. I was right associating it with my graduation, which was May, 1974. Seems like yesterday!
