Need some help on this old girl. We had that big storm and no power for 5 days few weeks back. I unpluged this fridge and another one before power came back. I noticed that it wasnt as cold as it once was and took about 2 days to start making ice. The cold side gets to about 42 and frezzer around 20 and ran all the time. I had the repaire guy out and he said fan was going and he replaced the fan ( for a total of $116 for parts and labor). Well now the ice cream is so soft it almost falls of the scoup in puddels, frozen juice is in liquid state and freezer is at 28. Fresh vegatbels are warm in drawer. So I ask what else to try to fix I wish I had just thrown it out as this seems wasted money.

What do you guys think of Samsung s/s as there is a good sale on them here or be better to get Whirlpool if I have buy new. Thanks ....Chalie

When I owned all the apartment houses, everyone was paying their own electric bill. But as soon as a new tenant came in and the power and refrigerator was turned on, too many times the fridge did not work. I always had an old spare I could move in before getting a better one, an old early 50's Gibson that always worked anytime, anywhere. Wished I had kept it now. But it seems the newer ones without freon tend to die alot when the power supply goes out for any period of time. I think it would be better to start over and get a new one and hopefully your homeowners insurance can cover a good part of it.

Refrigerator

As part of the moving process/blackout, is it possible the temperature controls were somehow messed up? Maybe try setting the fridge and freezer thermostat/air baffle to get more air into whichever compartment doesn't have the thermostat (i.e. Fridge maybe on a stat, but baffle directs more air to freezer or fridge or vice versa).

Why would a fridge just die when unplugged? Seems really stupid to me for something that worked perfecty to suddenly stop.

It almost sounds as if the unit is icing over and not defrosting. Do you have any pictures you could supply us with to help diagnose the issue?

I thought it might be iced over or clogged but it isnt. The defrost timer kicked it on and the element got hot. The tech checked to make sure I didnt leave any dirt on coils and they were clean. The fridge is at 51 now and freezer around 27. The fridge is going to the crusher as soon as I decide what to buy. Charlie
