Does anyone have have to give away or sell -- or can you direct me to a place to obtain -- a usable lint screen for my Frigidaire GMini dryer? Please feel free to email me directly at jddojo at yahoo. Thanks! (And, no, I don't want to sell the dryer.)

I also had this problem with mine! I solved it with a piece of a paper clip that I inserted in both broken parts of the plastic frame (I think I heated the paper clip so it would melt the plastic or I could have used a tiny drill bit too...) and I patched the lint filter that was torn at the very same place. Looks like your dryer is identical to mine!

Do you have the matching washer?

Here are pictures of my set:

If you don't want to repair it, you can probably find one from an early (GM) Laundry Center as they use the same... But I think it's easier to just repair it!

If the dryer vibrates, have a look at the blower for accumulated lint. Mine had a terrible vibration caused by this as half of the blower wheel was packed with lint!

Now, it's stacked above my GMini washer as I didn't have enough space for both!

Frigiadire 1970s 24" Dryers

The broken filter frame was a common problem on these dryers because the SS clip that helps position the filter in the lint filter housing gets a wad of lint on it and then puts pressure against the yellow plastic filter frame and causes it to eventually crack as one tries to push the filter back into place after cleaning. It is important to clean lint out of this area regularly with something like a ruler and as Phil R mentioned when the lint filter is fitting poorly lint will bypass the filter and clog the blower wheel. If the dryer is vibrating from an unbalanced blower wheel it will cause the plastic blower wheel to come loose from the motor shaft and destroy itself and the motor rubber mounts and several other related parts and even the motor itself.

These were cool little dryers but needed loving care if they were going to last very long, sorta like F&P dish-drawer DWs.

Or very light use!
LOL!

Thanks so much, you'all

No time at the moment to respond fully; just taking a moment for gratitude for the info and helpful attitudes -- and the warnings! Will reply more fully later this week.

(I don't have the matching washer. I have a Kenmore "Heavy Duty" "portable" -- approx same dimensions.)

I'm back

Thanks for the suggestions, Phil, and thanks for the email alerting me there were replies to my request. Not sure I'll attempt a fix on the lint screen, since it's functioning, but it's good to have a direction to experiment should I need to.

As for lint, I took the whole thing apart when I first started using it, and cleaned out every place I could access. Sounds like I should do that every so often. Light use is not an option.

John, thanks for emphasizing Phil's info, and for the warning against destroying the entire machine. Yikes! And I appreciate knowing the era of the machine -- although I guess I could have figured that from the "lovely" avocado green. ;-P

Again, thanks, you two!

I just ordered a newer lint screen online that was cheap. I'll let you know if it fits... Not exactly like the original but same part number with the added "530" at the beginning.

Fix it?!

What, and ruin a generations-long family tradition of deferred maintenance???

I might, eventually, though. I'm holding your suggestion as an ace up my sleeve.

And, I'll appreciate hearing if the one you just bought is a good fit. You must have the owner's manual, if you know the part number, eh?

anyone awake?

So, now that you mention it, the dryer *is* vibrating. :-( How do I get to the blower fan? I've got the back off (and a load of wet clothes in the washer). Next step? Thx!

Very cool

Phil, the screen you ordered certainly does look to be the correct shape. Will look forward to your assessment of it.

I cleaned out a *lot* of lint the other night, including hair that I know comes from the previous owner. Then it turned out that the vibration sound was because it was on an uneven part of the floor. Sure sounds smooth now!

Thanks!
