gonna replace that old style

hose clamp with a new worm clamp from the auto parts store or home depot. think i'll replace the smaller top clamp that feeds the upper spray as well. can't hurt!

all in all

it's a complete success!!! it was worth driving to chicago for this beautiful old classic dishwasher!

and my work today has paid off as well! it runs great, it doesn't leak anywhere important, and it sounds like a lot of water is being thrown around inside. later on i'm actually gonna run a load of dishes in it after i replace those 2 clamps!

will post a couple pics tonite when i do.

and this one i'm gonna get plexiglass for the front sometime here in the near future. really want to see the water action inside. will film it when i do.

after a long winter of not doing anything on my appliances this is just what i needed to get back in the groove!

next on the list, the speed queen solid tub washer i picked up in indianapolis last october.

thanks again for the nice comments and support!

Spit shine

Instead of detergent, run it with a package of Lemonade Kool-Aid - the orignial kind (without any sugar). All those dark hard water stains should go away. Even if you have to do it twice. Or stop it before the water drains and reset the dial to repeat the wash.
It's a cheap cleanup that's non-toxic!

thanks

kool aid it is! and lemonade, my fav!

i do have some lime away i usually use on dishwashers, i had completely forgotten about cleaning the tub stains, was so excited it didn't leak! but will try the kool aid tonite!

this is the spin tube

holder that bolts thru the back wall into the hose assembly shown above.

it supports the spin tube and holds it in place.

i cut a new gasket for it out of the leftover cork material i had from the pump gasket. again i bought this at the auto parts store for 5 bucks.

a couple days ago it

also had a small leak on top around this inlet for the top sprayer but tonite it is not leaking in this area. maybe that top gasket just needed to get moistened up again and pliable after years of non use.

i did tighten up the wire twistie a tad with pliers, that may have helped also. but i really think it was leaking around that gasket too. oh well, no leaks now!

it's a lot of fun to

run it and listen to it! it has a very quiet whooshing sound and very distictive drain solonoid sound.

the spin tube itself seems to fly around it's post when i open the door and peek at it.

timer escapement increments are one minute each. it has an 8 minute first wash and a 4 minute final rinse. i'm gonna time a complete cycle here in the next day or so.

it has several water purges where the water enters tub while drain solnoid and motor are on.

rinses seem to be about one minute except for final rinse.

but it is a pain to load!

anything like a pan or bowl has to go in the top rack to be hit by the spray! all you can put in bottom rack are pl;ates and saucers or other flat surface dishes!

this would not be a machine i could ever use on a daily basis as most of my stuff is bowls, pans, cups etc. i ran out of room really quick in that top rack.

but i will say thateverything came out clean.

regardless, it's the most unique dishwasher i have ever had with that spray tube substituting for a bottom spray arm. this machine and the old style impeller machines make up a very important part of dishwasher history!

i'm very glad i was able to get it and am very glad i was able to fix it up with no leaks! and as said it is a lot of fun to play with!!!

Peter, there is a awy to put some stuff in the bottom rack so that bowls and pans get hit by the spray. See Dishwashercrazy's 1955/1956 manual for some ideas for that.  As to how good it cleans in that position is a guess on my part.  But you're right, it's not a machine for people like us and a daily driver.  A PITA big time.
