Hi guys, I'm doing some research for a friend of mine that will need a new Top Load washer soon. His 35 year old Maytag is nearing the end.

His repair guy said the (plastic pieces) that allow the tub to spin (maybe the "Snubber Ring")or something else is broken and or maybe the repair guy doesn't want to dismantle the whole machine. (I personally didn't see what was wrong).

I've looked at (online research) GE and Maytag top loaders but people seem to not like them (have complaints about them failing too soon or not washing well).

The new Speed Queen is just not the same anymore. The wash action is just so weak. I've recommenced a Speed Queen (2017 model) to another friend and she loves it. I couldn't in good faith suggest the 2018 model.

So would a Frigidaire FFTW4120SW be a decent compromise?
It will do a deep fill on Heavy Duty and Bulky cycles, otherwise it would load sense on other cycles and add just enough water.

He's more the old school type and likes top loaders, otherwise I would suggest an Electrolux, LG or Whirlpool Front Loader.

I also suggested to him a good used machine from Craig's List or and Estate sale.

Any suggestions would be helpful and thanks in advance for your feedback.

I would suggest maybe for a good wash action to look on craiglist in your friend area for a good whirlpool direct drive washer or a vintage washer for cleaning power for 1 thing 2 ask another repair company for a second opinion if the second company is willing to open up the washer to repair it then is washer would last him a few more years.

Unless I'm mistaken

Snubbers are one of those repairs you can make without taking every last wire, bolt, speednut and hose out, no?

As in, cheap and fast do-it-yourself fix?

A 35 year old Maytag is well worth fixing in my opinion.

As to Frigidaire TL - if you use the right options and defeat the dumbed down 'hot', I bet they're no worse than all the other trashy TL junk on the market right now.
