I am looking to sell my 1953 Frigidaire Unimatic washer I have. The machine did work however I pulled it out of service because something seemed to be going wrong. The agitator sometimes still goes up and down for a little while until the machine reaches full speed spin. I took it out of service because I did not want to make the problem worse. Also it has a newer style fill valve adapted to work in it.

I would like to see this go to someone that can fix or use for parts.

Asking 200 OBO

Not really sure what it is worth in the given condition

Potential buyer

I'm interested in buying your washer. Can you send some more pictures of it? The back console and the inside and the back of the washer. I emailed you at your address. Can you get back to me if you want to get rid of it?

"Nobody wants a Unimatic for $200?? That's hard to

Many of us aren't young like we used to be; indeed good number are at time of their life when they are downsizing and otherwise getting their affairs in order. Then of course sadly many members have gone on to the other place.

Shipping large appliances has become quite dear. That's when one can make arrangements with a reliable service or person. For others not everyone wishes or has ability any longer to travel great distances to collect a new acquisition. Yes, we still have many active (and lurking) members who do so, but nothing like things once were.

People fall in and out of love with hobbies or collecting all the time. Sometimes they get back into swing of things after a lull, sometimes not.

If someone wanted this washer (and or matching dryer) by now it would have been arranged.

There's always Uship and or other shippers and seller seems quite motivated and thus willing to work with potential buyers.

In past members have had machines moved halfway or nearly totally across country. One member is quite active in building out his collection, diving good distances in aid of that endeavor.

So, go get it Dan!

These really aren't my cup of tea. I had a TOL WCI-63 and played with a Rollermatic and 1-18. I get way too dirty for a solid tub washer, especially without a lint filter. Then there's pet hair.

However, in the 20+ years I've been on here, loads of users constantly gushed like hell about Unimatic washers. Even now, they're still on lots of "Dream machines to be found" lists under many profiles.

I guess it's like politicians, all talk and no action.

If it were closer, I would squirrel it away for somebody else, even if I really don't care to own one. It's not like these washers are getting any easier to find. It may be expensive to ship but how many future chances are there to acquire one?

Oh I don't know...

IMHO it may all just be relative including location of appliance versus where a person happens to be located.

Just this year (2024) alone several vintage Frigidaire W&D sets or just one or the other have come up. Oneself posted links to two auctions.

Later model W&D set didn't go for much money when hammer fell IIRC.

1950's Unimatic went for $600.

As our own "Unimatic 1140" commented at the time over years more than a few 1950-1954 Unimatics have popped up for sale. Some went for good money, others not what one would have imagined, but never the less did move.

Then there are or were private or otherwise deals done without much fanfare or notice on AW.org. This would also include liquidation or otherwise things moved from private collections.

Are some persons all talk? Perhaps, but reality of shipping large appliances today likely means many who are willing in spirit just cannot swing it financially. That's if they can even nail down a reliable and trust worthy shipper.

Still Available

Just wanted to let all know that this is still available. The plans for it to go this past weekend fell through. I want it gone as I don’t have the room. I do not want to scrap but not sure how much longer I can keep them before they need to be gone.

unimatic washer and 59 dryer, saved from the scrap yard

I ended up buying the unimatic washer and dryer because I really didn't want to see them scrapped. I was interested in them when they were posted but at the time nothing was working out for me to get them but finally it all came together and I just got them yesterday. I have a question if someone could help me. I thought a while back there was a member on here that did or know of someone who could make the rings that are on the agitator. The ones on there now are extremely hard and have minor cracks in the rubber. I'd like to get new ones made if I could. So If anyone knows what I could do to get them taken care of the information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all![this post was last edited: 11/7/2024-18:49]
