Talked to Mikey from Maine and he said this couldn't happen, but...
Having a problem with a banging noise on the Frigidaire GTR1670ASO front loader when it wrings out clothing. It only does it once or twice during the cycle. Mikey thought it was an unbalanced load, but it's been consistent over the last two weeks.

I am able to reach in and push the left side of the drum back and forth where it will easily hit the back of the cabinet. Pushing on the right side does not do this, it seems perfectly attached. When the load is wringing out, an inordinate amount of torque is happening at the door seal. Weeks before this happened I would get a rattling noise when it was somewhere in the midrange RPMs when ramping up to speed for the final spin, and when it crossed that frequency on the way down from final spin. I always use the 1,000 RPM speed.

Figuring it's a broken or detached suspension component, how do I open the top panel for a look-see? It's apparently not attached like a typical top-loader would be.

Since I'm running out of towels (but thankfully not underwear), it's time to get it fixed. Any help on what it might be and how to get to it will be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a broken spring or shock absorber. You can remove the top panel, there should be screws at the back of the machine (2 sets) and the panel should slide back and lift off. You can also remove the bottom access panel in front - remove two screws near the floor and pull the panel out toward you. Check the springs at the top on either side of the tub and the shock absorbers at the bottom.

Awesome diagnostics, gansky1! Not to mention FAST! It's a busted shock absorber, the ring around where it attaches to the frame has snapped. Looks easy enough to replace. Thanks for the help!

Frigidaire Washer Shock - Help Finding Part

Thanks to gansky1 I was able to find the problem with the Frigidaire front loader. I removed the shock absorber and got the part number. I'd like to try to order it on the Internet, but have not been able to find it. The number stamped on it is ROSA 120N, followed by a date. I've tried looking for it with and without the space in the number, to no avail. Anyone know an online place to get this part?

Hi! Ganski is one of the appliance wizard's we are blessed with at this web site---he is just awesome! For parts, I would suggest you try: repairclinic.com Just follow the format and put in the type and model number, etc. Keep in mind the number stamped on the part may NOT be Frigidaire's part number. Good luck!
