The spin cycle is still nowhere close to being as smooth and quiet as my Maytag.

Then something is very wrong with the machine, it should be at least as quiet if not quieter than the Maytag, especially without any clothes in it. Can you remove that lower panel and a take few pictures of the inside? I'm particularly interested in the spring that hangs down on the right side from the outer tub (I think) to the motor plate.
