Frigidaire WCI stacked gas dryer issue

This is probably one of the newest machines I've gotten to mess with... LOL   I don't have pictures but it's a WCI-built Frigidaire Laundry Centre from 1999 with the gas dryer.  

 

The issue is that the dryer will run a cycle normally but will not start again while hot;  it takes about an hour to cool down before it will restart. 

 

A local appliance repair place has advised against repairing it - they claimed the motor was at fault.  However, me being the smartass that I am thinking that maybe there's a thermal fuse or sensor somewhere that's cutting out.  

 

I've tried to search for service literature for the model  FSG748GFS1 but I'm not finding anything. 

 

Is my theory sound or could it really be the dryer motor that is causing this problem?

Thermal fuses typically don't auto-reset.  Fuses by definition are a one-shot protection device, require replacement after triggering.  (Although, F&P SmartLoad has a protector on the heater box which is manually resettable by pressing a button on it.)

Parts diagrams show that Frigidaire model has a 135°F bimetal thermostat on the blower housing and a 180°F bimetal on the rear drum shroud.  I didn't see a thermal fuse but the diagrams I found aren't the greatest so maybe I missed it.  There's a wiring diagram on a couple of the parts sources but it's too small and low quality for a clear view.

The motor surely has an internal overheat protector.  Have you examined it for high temperature and continuity during an instance of non-start?

When dryers age and the motor gets clogged with lint, they can exhibit this symptom. Was the motor vacuumed out when the dryer was rebuilt?

It's not my dryer, but I'll definitely have the owner check out the motor - that is definitely something I do when a "new" dryer finds its way to me.  A cleaning will surely help!

There is a set of three drum glides that are on top of the inside of the door that the drum rides on. I’m betting they are gone causing more resistance for the drum to turn and it is overheating the motor by the time the cycle ends. If it’s been doing it long enough it’s very possible the motor would have to be replaced as well.
