I have a 1956 Frigidaire WI-56 dryer that I wish to give away. Just come and pick it up in Tucson, Az or arrange for shipping. It is an electric dryer (220V, 3 prong plug) and works great except that timer does not advance. Please feel free to email me with questions at

DI-56. Beautiful gray porcelain

To anyone who gets this wonderful dryer: Notice the safety switch right next to the door catch. This switch is easily broken when removing or replacing the panel around the door which has to be removed about once a year to clean out the accumulated lint around the drum and lube the front drum roller bearings. You have to slide it from behind the switch so lift forward on the right side and slide the panel to the right to clear the switch. Front rollers have been NLA for the past 20 years. If they do not roll smoothly, the drum will tear the rubber off the rollers and then they are ruined.

There is no easy way to replace the two C-7 lights behind the glass timer dial. Drum light is in series with and serves as ballast for the ozone bulb. The drum light almost always blows first. I need a rear drum bearing for mine so it is resting now.

This is a beautiful dryer - 1956 was the first year for the door switch, I've never seen one of these and didn't know it was so precariously placed. Tom is right about those front rollers, very important that they run smoothly, but they are relatively easy to maintain and I've not had any that were completely worn out in 4 of these style dryers so far.

There's nothing like Filtrator towels - so soft and sweet smelling!
