I rarely see Frigidaire dishwashers recommended. They look to have a simple chopper system. Is it price, reliability, design, or something else that keeps them from being recommended? I know the Maytag 4949 is roughly the same price as one of the mid tier Frigidaires. Is the Maytag design better?

I believe it is the concern about their reliability. I do see a number of them being offered for sale (at very low prices) that are only a few years old which seems to support this concern.

I know I have avoided the brand because of this, but I've never actually taken one apart to get an idea of the build quality. I hope others can add more specific comments related to their apparent weaknesses.

I'll Steer Clear of Frigidaire

My 2006 PowerClean's pump is starting to make an odd whinny noise on drain cycle and I've noticed food left on the some dishes once and a while. I've taken it apart down to the pump and found a couple cherry pits. However, the problem persists. I think it may just be dying. So, it looks like I'm going to be in the market again.

I like the new Maytags and the clean water wash system + chopper. I know the filter is supposed to be able to clean itself, however, can anything get stuck on the internal filter (hair, stickers, etc.)? If so, how would you get it off?

With my PowerClean I can get to the pump pretty easily, but I don't know if I would be able to get to the new Clean Water Wash pump.

I've read Miele's seem to be reliable and the filter and pump is right there to be cleaned if need be. However, the one I was looking at was $1499, which is a large price hike compared to the Maytag I was looking at. It definitely looked like a quality unit, though.

Frigidaire experience

I say stay away from Frigidaire. Mine lasted a year before it quit. Only the lights would come on. No fill, no wash/rinse, no drain, no detergent, no rinse aid, no drying, nothing. We have a Kenmore dishwasher and it works miles better. I originally wanted a Maytag with the chopper system but my dad could afford the Kenmore.
