Hi All:
Last Fall I asked everyone what to do about the frogs that moved into the small pond I made at work. I ended up getting a small 40 watt pond heater to keep the water from freezing solid during the winter. I think the frogs came from eggs that were on a water lily that I bought at the local garden center. Since the whole area is asphalt, there would have been nowhere for them to go, except the bottom of the pond. I took some pics to share.

Here is one of the residents, a green frog. They can live for 10 years, and can survive frozen solid for two weeks. Their metabolism slows down to near nothing as they hibernate in the winter. They burrow in the mud at the bottom of ponds during the winter. I was sure to put a few inches of dirt in the plastic pond. He is on the back edge of the pond, near the center of the picture.

Here is the 40 watt heater, top view. I took a pic of it on the Maytag dryer, DG309. After all, this is an automatic washer forum!

Until recently I thought the water lily was dead. It's coming back beautifully. I put in a few water hyacinths last week.

Such a cute little guy. The town I was raised in had a lake and I loved listening to the frogs during the summer, it was very relaxing at night to sit in the yard and listen to the frogs.
