Gain with baking soda powder detergent

hello all!,well i just bought a box of that stuff for our household at a discount store here by our house it was 12.97 and i think it does 96 loads. after some convincing to the parental unit she wants a small bag of ariel which wouldn't last 3 days! she caved and i bought it and its actually pretty good makes good suds (although i prefer almost none) and rinses out pretty well! no overbearing scent unlike we know its infamous for, next we will buy roma there stocking it now in our neck of the woods in huuuuuuuuuuuuuge bags! and for 2.97?!?!?!?! why not! so were converting to powders now...any thoughts?

I have been looking for Gain baking soda detergent for a long time. We used a box and by the time we finished it Gain had withdrawn it from the market.
What was the name of the discount store? I'll have to scour ours down here.

The phosphated version of ROMA is good stuff. I have not tried it without phosphates.
Still, I think the FOCA and VIVA brands are a stronger formulation---especially VIVA. My everyday-driver has ended up being phosphated FOCA. LOVE IT!

I tend to steer clear of detergents with too many gimmicky additives such as baking soda, Febreeze, etc. It is a cheap filler for the manufacturers and allows them to decrease the amount of more expensive cleaning ingredients. As for domestic (U.S.) detergents, I do like regular GAIN.

Allen,

Try Family Dollar, or Dollar General. Both of the stores, especially FD has it all the time. Really great at deodorizing stinky items like sweatclothes, etc.

Where is anyone finding phosphated laundry detergents? I thought those disappeared from the US years ago.

I use Gain almost all the time 1/2 the regular amount plus I add my own baking soda when needed , i.e. sweat clothes, work clothes, and bedding. I use it in my Kenmore FL and I get great results, enough suds(little) and great rinsing.
Like Gyrafoam said things like Fabreze,baking sda., bleach alt. are mostly fillers.
If I need bleaching I use bleach and/or oxy something(clorox-oxy usualy) and again pretty good/great results 90% of the time.The other 10% usualy means time for the rag-bag lol.
