Help Support :

Thanks for the pics...

I bet it is somehow rebadged, an Indesit or Hotpoint Ariston machine?

that's right HotpointFan. though it doesn't look like it copy/paste.
RPM not higher than 500
good at washing but bad at spinning/spindrying ;)

reply to Malta thread

the new Gala washers u posted a link for are not for Merloni, they are for Vestel(were actually) since Gala closed in 2008

reply to Malta thread

Yes the current machines are Vestel, but must have been sourced from Merloni at some point. The Gala brand did not however belong to Merloni - originally it was used by AEI Hotpoint (now of course owned by Indesit) for export models as AEI Hotpoint did not have rights to use the Hotpoint brand outside of the UK until the 1970s - so one finds Hotpoint of the 50s to 70s sold as BTH, GALA, English Electric etc overseas. Hotpoint sometimes used the Gala and EE brands for certain in-store specials in the UK after this point, but only very occasionally.

It seems that in Malta, the importer has kept a brand ownership arrangement for the Gala name and of course could have sourced the machines from anywhere - Merloni being an obvious choice until they closed. I wonder if we have any members from Malta who know more about this importer? Maybe someone has an older AEI model?

Merloni closed down?

A tale of two companies -Antonio Merloni produced machines for third-party rebranding in various markets (in the UK as Servis, Proline, Diplomat etc), required a government bailout in 2010, and was sold in 2011, with only some activities being continued. Not to be confused with Merloni Elettrodomestici (now the Indesit Company) - both companies being owned at some stage by different members of the Merloni family!

Servis Rainwave

I had a Rainwave in a rental property in Bedford in the 1990's that looked very similar to this, especially the drum. It was a good machine except that the profile of the baffles was so low that it wouldn't turn over a load on the wool programme. In order to get it to tumble you had to put the clothes in having wet them in the sink!
