News flash to the seller ... they were not "made by sears roebuck company."
Very low-mileage pair. I have to wonder if they cost $400 when they were new.

$199 each was the advertised sale price but salespeople were ordered to upsell to a more pricier model. Most Sears stores only had a few in stock and there were no rainchecks on those sale items.
It's interesting that this BOL dryer model has only auto-dry (surely thermostatic). How much manufacturing cost could possibly be saved by 1) having a timer produced specifically for this model without a timed-dry section or 2) disabling the timed-dry section on a timer that would otherwise have it active?
No time dry cycle
It did not save a single penny to leave the time dry cycle off, the purpose of this pair was a price leader with the hope of getting people to buy a more expensive machine.
That’s why this consumer option was left off, department of energy requires an automatic cycle, so given a choice of the two they gave you the minimum required.
