YAY!!! Hope y'all are having fun in Chicago...wish I could be there, with all of those fun sweepers and that Hoover Auto-Rinse twinnie...:)

I'm glad y'all got together. Now, that Disposer model is quite a sheer looker in his own right.

My favorite picture is #6. Even though I'm not into vacs at all, if I walked up to that beautiful line and display of hoovers, I'd be quite moved. Very beautiful display arrangement.

Thanks for the pics...I LOVE that 806 set. I wish i could get my hands on one of those. My grandmother had that exact set as I was growing up....She just replaced it 2 years ago. I wish i would have known she was gonna replace it.........:( The sounds of that Maytag and a GE Filter Flo are the most comforting sounds to me to this very day.

A Great Time

I can tell that I am getting older, it takes me longer to recover from these gatherings. What a great time. It is always fun to have collectors over. It gives you renewed interest in your own collection. It's fun to see what things interest different people. We fired up that Speed Queen and alas, the drain pump didn't work. I have downloaded the Service Manual and looked up the pump kit. I think I may have found a source for it and will check tomorrow. Greg really liked it (it would go fabulously with his Speed Queen automatic set) so if I can get it fixed, it's going on a trip to Omaha. I would love to be a contributor to the Nunn collection. Greg checked out some of my other machines and has inspried me to fix them up. That 806 set will go through a ground-up restore and my KitchenAid KDI14P will have the water inlet valve go through a rebuild. It really rattles when it fills. We shall see what the issue is.

The Apron

Oh Honey. That apron is in the possession of none other than our own Charlie (Helen Lawson - "Listen - There's only one star in a Helen Lawson show, and that's me baby!!") Watrous. I am sure that no power could rip it out of his hands. We only get to see it when he comes for a visit.

Home safe and sound!

We arrived home a while ago, exhausted but enchanted by the over-the-top hospitality from all our hosts in Chicagoland! Hooverland was awesome, like Bob said before, even if you're not into the vacuum collecting you really admire the collections of Jeff and Fred, they are truly amazing and beautiful. I was swept away with the commercial Hoover cleaners, must find one of those now! Skyler and I had a great time and enjoyed our trip, though it was too short! I will post a few pics tomorrow, the combo and a Hoover and even a disposer were all parting gifts!

Fred, now don't go buying up a bunch of parts I may already have in stock!

Thanks again guys for everything!!!!!

Great pictures you guys! Looks like a fun time was had by all. OOOOooooh that Frigidaire disposall, I will have to keep my eyes out for one of them.

My thanks

To Fred, who's a great friend, cook, and a fab host. I raise my glass to you Ida dear, Thank you for everything!

To Greg, It was great to meet you have you tour Hooverland. It was a fun weekend and I agree way too short. Now I look forward to seeing your collection, just be sure you chain any light-up Maytags down!

A couple things I learned this weekend:
1-you can run a Maytag Neptune with the door open, damn that was fun to watch!
2-Watching Greg change the belts on Freds A806 washer in like 30 seconds made me realize a washer is not so much different than a vacuum, in that its all in the skill. I admire that so many have gone to such lengths to preserve history for the future. Be it vacuums, washers & dryers, dishwashers or whatever, its a labor of love, and a preservation of history.

Thanks Greg!!

Had tons of laundry to do today and really needed that extra machine. Those belts on the 806 really needed changing and I too, couldn't believe how Greg just tipped that A806 back (with water and clothes in it!) and slipped the new belts on. Runs great now, but a bit noisy, so it will need some more work. Ran about 8 loads of laundry through the Neppie and the 806. The DE 806 dryer needs some work (doesn't heat up all the way and doesn't dry the clothes all the way) so I will do some troubleshooting and get it back to peak performance as well. Thanks again guys, had a fabulous time. We must plan the next one!!

I wish I could have been there!

Sorry I couldn't be in attendance. Too much going on with school, work, the upcoming holidays.... I'm about ready to scream!

But, I see that you had a fabulous time! Hopefully, Greg, I'll be able to meet you sooner than later. If only I had a vehicle large enough for me to drag my Hoover twinnie down, just think of the fun we could have in Ida's basement!

I need to know details about how to run a Neptune with the door open. I'm going to Mom's for Thanksgiving--I should give it a try while the Turkey's in the oven...

:)

Ida,

Well darling it seems you can wash, cook and play with vaccums even when Helen has to put her nose to the grindstone! I only had to tell one passenger, "Look, I'm busy and I'm tired, what do you want?", and then things were fine.

Kidding aside, this last trip was one for the books. Our Captain was retiring after 38 years and had an all male crew! What a blast we had. I can't show my face in Las Vegas for at least six months.

Later, I'm going to post pics of my newest acquisiton--a Royal 886 I got thrifting in Ft. Lauderdale with Monsieur LaBue for $20 while at the Lambda Car Club event. I should have taken before pics as you will only see the finished product. I'm very impressed with this Royal. See what you think after I post the pics.

Thanks for the pics of the weekend with Greg & Co. Hooverland is always overwhelming to me no matter how many times I visit. It is like the Disneyland of Hoovers! Glad you all had fun but how could you not? You are a fab host with wonderful "toys" and Jeff is too! Great pics.

Looks like everyone had a wonderful time! I sure did when I visited Fred and Jeff too during the vacuum convention we had there. I'm very happy to see someone got one of the wringers going! :)

I had no idea there were Frigidaire garbage disposals. Very cool!

Jeff, it was fun to see your twinnie as well! Mine is here in California with me and so I'll have one to play with too once my friend Roger installs the pump.

Fred, my sister and her husband just bought a home in a place called "Somonauk" which appears to be a little ways west of you. So, I will get to visit Chicago friends hopefully again when I visit her!

Royal 886

Well, here it is in all it's glory after some simple cleaning and maintainence. Wish I had taken some before pics! This model is from approx. 1988 and Jeff, correct me if I am wrong.

For a simple 6 amp vacuum it is a very good cleaner. I put in a new genuine Royal quadralfex brush roll with brush stiffeners and a textured belt to prevent slippage. I have the hose but need to get an adapter and the tools.

The exhuast even smells good! It uses the bottom fill type bags and I got the Royal mico-filtering to reduce dust leakage. Not bad for a $20 thrift store find. I think these were about $399 new with all attachments.
