Gas Dryer Height Requirement in Garage 18 inches?

I've always seen water heaters on elevated platforms but have never seen an elevated dryer. Anyone here elevated a dryer in a garage? SQ recommends 18 inches and Californi appears to require any appliance with an ignition source has to be elevated 18 inches or more. The installer and local utility company (who did free gas line check) never mentioned it and it doesn't appear to be widely followed. It does seem like a good idea to get sparking devices above the ground where fuel source fumes are likely to be.
In Southern California garage temps don't get cold enough to freeze pipes so it's common to have water heaters, washers and dryers, and utility sinks in the garage.

I never thought about this for dryers, but it makes sense considering it's required for water heaters.

 

Our Maytag DG806 lived in the garage and had a pilot light but I never gave it a thought.   I know our 2008 Affinity dryer uses a heating element to ignite the burner instead of a spark.   Maybe that's permissible without the 18" elevation?

the code for any garage located gas appliance is 18 inches off floor.
Our neighbor has a gas range they cook with in the summer and it's up on cinder blocks on the approach step to the house. So a 12 inch high block on top of the 6 inch step that traverses the garage width is to code.

Neighbors?

Can you spy into your neighbors garages to see what they have going on? Or ask around, if you don't want to appear creepy...

Thanks for the replies. Neighbors have elevated water heaters (even the electric ones) and elevated gas furnaces (for HVAC systems) but none of the dryers are elevated (including ones in the garage). Does make sense to have them elevated.

Neighbors may not be the best example though. Some store bbq and propane tanks in their garages. My bbq and propane tanks are always stored outside away from ignition sources.

I use a drone (just kidding). I see out my bathroom window when I open or close the blind, into the side door of their garage which is open when they cook, or they have the main garage door open.
It smells so good when they make dolma (stuffed braised eggplant and peppers), roasts and stews, sauces and soups.
Once a month they have a family circle meeting and all the relatives eat in the garage in the summer.

ideas can go around and around, but the best thing to do is contact your local municipality, and ask what they require for your particular situation....
