This is very interesting,

being Mexico is predominantly Catholic. Also makes you wonder if a lot of gay/lesbians living here in the U.S. will move back to Mexico for this benefit? In any case, I am happy for Mexico. I wished that our country would get their head out of the ground and make it legal on a national level instead of state per state

might as well

There in NO limit to what most spanish guys will do. I have been in bars where the wife came too to make sure he did not go home with a woman a man was just fine though. Have known many many over the years. Most play till the sun comes up.

Some of us

actually do want to marry and do regard a monogamous, committed, life-long partnership as being right for our partner and ourselves.
I don't get the resistance to it in America, especially the heated fury some gays feel on the subject. Don't want to marry? Don't.
It's that simple.
But get the hell out of the way of those of us who do.
If Gordon Brown succeeds, all of EC Europe (even Poland!) as well as Canada and just about the rest of civilization except the US will recognize gay rights.

Actually my understanding is that many back-woods South Americans belive self-gratification is a sin, but M2M action is quite acceptable as long as one takes an active role.

"Pato" and "Maricon" have differnect shades of meaning in Spanish in that the one that is the passive one is considered to be disguisting, while the other is simply a "bugaron" (buggerer).

If the goal of the male human is like all other males on the planet, it is to make sure his seed-animals get to be the ones to fertilize the egg.

That means getting rid of your competition. Straight-guys should be thrilled to pieces that gay guys don't usually plow the fertile cresent, and as such are not competing for what is tresured by them.

The problem is they are scared to death by "Try it, you'll like it."

Sadly I must admit

that Australia isn't trail blazing on this issue either. Then again we have a christian(ist) prime minister (Kevin Rudd), who goes to church every Sunday. He is well-known for his strong christian values that include being rude and bullying people when he doesn't get his way. He already indicated that gay marriage is not on his agenda. His wife is a fat slag with a personality that matches her looks. She, like her husband, is playing the system for all the personal advantages that they can get. She once made a comment along the lines of 'I don't waste my time on people who are of no use to me'. Until her husband became PM she intentionally underpaid her staff, she runs her own business, and only fessed up when the media got a whiff of it. That seals the deal for me as far as my expectations go with our current government. We call our PM Keven 707 - he spends more time overseas exploiting photo opportunities with celebs than attending to business here.

Anyway, before long Australia and the US may well end up being the only modern economies that refuse to grant LGBT people equal rights. It is actually amazing how close America and Australia are on so many issues. I think Canada has less in common with the US than we do.

I don't know what has done more damage, the christianist

Yes you do. They are all equally guilty. Only the Catholic church has a significant head start on everyone else.

Well,

The christianists have nuclear weapons, the Vatican 'only' has guilt.

It's sort of like arguing which is worse - being strung up by the throat until you strangle to death (what the bastard christianists and Republicans are pushing through in Uganda) or having your boyfriend's neck snapped before your eyes just before they murder you (Nigeria, Iran).

How any gay man can vote Republican or support conservative Christian churches is beyond me. How self-loathing can you get?

Guilt is a strong weapon

In some ways more powerful than nukes. The Catholic Church works its mischief in other ways. They didn't lift a finger when gays, homos, gypsies and disabled people were being systematically eradicated 60 years ago. They still fail to acknowledge and take responsibility for all the lives that were destroyed through child sexual abuse in the name of their religion. You don't need nukes to destroy the soul, religion does a good job of it already.

Never doubt that guilt cannot kill

just as much as a bomb.. and yes Keven right on! would be a hard toss up as to which one the most.

Well actually

We all know the purpose of the bomb and what it does. Religion, on the other hand, is surreptitious. It claims to be benevolent and, yet, so many people's lives are destroyed by it. Its premise is based on outright lies and impossible promises.

The INTERPRETATION of various religions' Holy Scriptures and written and unwritten tradtions are weere the ugliness and problems arise, IMHO.

Also those who dont bend, break; it is the mind-set that "I'm 100% right and you are 100% wrong" is where the problems lie, again, IMHO. Believe anything you want and worship a monkey's @$$ if that is your thing, but keep your twistedness off my laws and my body and my country.

People---

Please!

Not all religions are bad, and not all believers are evil.

Yes, many are, I don't doubt that for a second. I also know that many gay men, lesbian women, and transsexual individuals have been deeply hurt by fakers posing as religious.

HOWEVER, has it ever occurred to you that blanket condemnation hurts, too?

I am not saying this to brag, far from it, but in about a half hour, I am taking Communion to a local nursing home.

My congregation has raised MANY, MANY dollars over the years for LOCAL, national, and international poverty relief, and still does. Later next month, I am going to be working in a kitchen to bring a hot, delicious, nourishing meal to an inner city parish nearby.

Sometimes though, when I read this board, I feel completely torn between my Christian identity and my Gay identity.

Again, I do not deny the damage done by some.

However not all of us are like that.

There have been times when I have felt like leaving here due to all the "believers are stupid" talk.

I love this site, I love most of you, and like all of you.....but sometimes it's a bit much for this Bear to bear.

I don't think I have tried to force my agenda or belief on anyone here, except to say "we're not all like that."

Love and sorrow,

Lawrence/Maytagbear
