Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support AutomaticWasher.org:

I absolutely love the white porcelain on steal basket. I never liked the dark baskets, they were sad and almost creepy looking. I wish we had white filter flo baskets in the US along with stainless steal ones. I've never seen a stainless steal filter flo basket but rest assured that if everyone was like me such washer would exist.

Also love that you can select a warm rinse separately. Tully a versatile washer for all your laundry needs.

Are you going to buy this?

Beautiful machine!

BTW, "steel" is a ferrous metal which, when nickel is added to it during the molten state, becomes what we know as "stainless steel". "Steal" is thievery. Someone needs to brush up on their grammar.

People do well if they can. If riding other people solved anything prisons would be empty, mental health issues wouldn't be a thing, substance use disorder would cease, poverty would be none existent, we'd all be happy and the human race would be living in perfect peace.

FYI, evidence based reasoning says much the opposite about your assessment and my grammar.

What the hell???

Remember - you can lead a whore to culture, but you can't make her think.

Real world data consistently shows that punishment and aversion does not decrease undesirable behavior or increase desirable behavior in the long run, in fact it demonstrates much the opposite. Where as on the other hand acknowledging and addressing lagging skills statistically produces protracted long term success. This shows that poor outcome in expectations is not a lack of motivation or of ones own choosing. Everyone is doing the best they can with their given cognitive abilities.

With that sad I don't think my spelling needed to be called out. I know the difference between theft and metal and I merely made an innocent mistake as do all humans.

"As for spelling and grammar, I am the first to admit I am terrible at both. I go back and look at some of my old postings and think Wow, that was a dumb spelling mistake. But if I try to get it right, I go back and proofread at least once, if not more. I still make mistakes, but the point is I try to get it right. Everyone makes mistakes, and I won't be a grammar and spelling..."

I think all washers should have a metal inner and metal outter tub. It makes the machine more durable and of course stainless is the best way to go about doing it IMO. Stainless gets smoother with use and does not chip, rust or peal.

This was for the 1998/1999 model year, Bob, if I recall correctly. GE did put their logo onto the Raytheon designed Amana/Speed Queen machines. This was done for only a brief amount of time. I purchased a set from Home Depot for my sister and brother-in-law for a housewarming gift. Not too long after, the washer developed a problem (spin??) When my brother-in-law called the GE help line and read the model number to them they claimed they never made a machine of that model, lol. I suppose he convinced them, as the machine got repaired under warranty. The reason why GE very briefly put their name on the Amana line? -- My assumption was that GE wanted to test market a higher end stainless tub machine with the GE badge on it, as their model T line had no stainless tubs. This offered GE a chance to a quickly get a stainless tub machine out to market with no retooling or assembly line changes.

I think that is a good surmise. By '98-99 they had mastered (so to speak) the conversion from Filter-Flo to the new plastic design both at Appliance Park and up in Canada, so didn't really have the capability to do a small run of higher-end stainless machines. I don't think there was a strike or anything.

If it makes you feel better, GE CARES did not recognize my GSH25JSXNSS side by side refrigerator. I've always reached the conclusion that if GE just senses that they have to honor a warranty they'll do anything in their power not to do so.

I wish GE had put the Amana design on the market with beefed up seals instead of the horrific model T. Amana is superior in every way and it would have spared a lot of people misery and headache. Plus it would be cool to see the GE logo on more Amana machines.

I always thought that those online grammar police wore very tight underwear which made them irritable and uncomforable.

The Re-Store near me wouldn't have let anyone unload that machine at their dock. They wouldn't accept a flawless low mileage Kenmore Ultra Wash dishwasher a few years ago and I'm sure they've only become more picky since.

PS
Lawrence, thanks for validating my long ago blocking decision.

I bet all the money in the world you aren't perfect even if you believe yourself to be otherwise.

I'd have gladly taken the Kenmore Ultra Wash. The older the machine is the better it is, especially low millage units. Many people are looking for washers that were like their old ones after getting mixed results from HE machines.

It comes down to location. The bay area is full of snooty rich people that want the latest and greatest who believe newer is better, more efficient, etc. Most other places will take a nice dishwasher as long as it doesn't look too ancient, like wood grain paneling and 1970's or older colors.

I’m not sure why GE ever sold these Amana Speed Queen design laundry appliances. They only did it for a very short time.

You may remember also that GE bought some of their top freezer refrigerators around the same time from admiral. They were pieces of crap also.

I really think they were threatening the union that manufactures their appliances to show that they could be tough and outsource things.

But as usual Chet you have no idea how things work, GE could never have gone to that design for their washers and dryers you can’t make money by buying all your machines from somebody else. GE had huge factories that they needed to keep busy or go out of business.

They certainly didn’t do it just to see if people like stainless steel tubs they could’ve used silver colored plastic if they wanted it or they could’ve easily thrown a stainless steel tub in their T model GE washers.

If you could read in between the lines I never said that GE would buy all their washers from someone else. Rather GE could buy the complete rights to the Amana washer and build it themselves. If anyone else like Kenmore wanted a piece GE could build it for them.

While the rights and tooling are a major investment, GE has the name and market to recoup the investment.

There is also the fact GE was at one point selling the filter flos at a loss. So even if hypothetically they made no money off the Amana design, it would at least protect their reputation.

I read it was because of some strike at Louisville and GE had a quota to fill in that time.

Bridal Edition! Love that white basket.

Have seen a Raytheon-built GE washer before, odd bird for sure. I seem to recall some churn in the appliance space around this time, even Maytag had their name on a few models of the Raytheon stuff. They were a hybrid of Maytag and (cheapened) SQ clones.
