Hello to everyone, I'm interested in this GE cooktop to complete my vintage themed all GE kitchen. I guess it's a JP680 from 1980 but what I need to know is if these brownish stains on the surface are removable and what product would be the best for cleaning.

Thank you in advance

I have had a white GE Profile Smooth top since 2005. I use Bon Ami powder on mine. I have tried the smooth top cleaners and none have work well enough for me. I use the Bon Ami with the green Scotch Brite scrubby sponge and never scratched mine yet and always stays white and clean

Thank you Mike. I will buy Bon Ami next time I go to the store

Cleaning a white ceramic electric cooktop

I highly doubt you’ll be able to make much difference in that badly abused GE cooktop, I have never had any luck trying to clean cooktops when they look like that the staining gets burned into the surface. I don’t even think you could grind it off.

The white cooktops went out a favor because they were so hard to keep clean if you stayed after them like JPG does they can be very attractive.

I agree with parunner58 about using Bon Ami powder, they also make a liquid formula of Bon Ami. If any of those stains are due to burned on grease a razor blade can be effective in scraping it off too.

The secret to keeping a ceramic top stove clean is to wipe it of thoroughly EVERY time you use the stove, no if’s and’s or but’s! This makes the maintenance effortless.

Good luck with getting your stove top cleaned! If you’re persistent you should be able to most if not all of the staining off.
