Does anyone have any insight on this unit? Looks to be in good condition, the seller is asking $500. Are combination units anything worth while in a usability sense or more of a novelty (which has its own merits if that’s the case).

Thanks!

Amanda,

That combo looks to be in nice shape, and is one of the later models.   As Kenny pointed out, there are others here who know a lot more about this machine's potential than do I.

I love your avatar!  Is it a safe assumption that it's your kitchen?  If so, what is the floor?  It appears to be a sheet product with a border.  Tell us more about your kitchen!!!

Those are fascinating!  Our member John L rebuilt one which ended up at my place briefly on its way to its new home. We ran it here, and it's amazing how it does both wash and dry seamlessly.  These are pretty uncommon because they have a lot of moving parts and people have not been maintaining them. People like John are a very valuable resource for info on them.

Last GE Combination W-D

These were made for about one more year, but the model didn’t change.

No parts are available for these machines anymore, we do still have a lot of used parts for them and a lot of experience fixing them if you do get it checked with us.

Hopefully it’s a very lightly used machine. It might actually work. Unless it’s in perfect working shape, I would try to negotiate the price down as they probably aren’t many people that will try to buy this but you never know

John.

Have you read anything about combos in general and the the GE combo in particular? Do you have a large library near you with a large backfile of consumer testing magazines like Consumer Reports or Consumer's Research Digest? Do you have an almost unlimited supply of water? Do you have a super-extracting washer in which you can spin laundry before it is dried in this machine? I hope your water rates are better than what we have from WSSC. This did not sell for $500 when new. The person selling it has no idea of its worth other than it is old and Avocado Green.

Great cleaning ability. Poor water extraction causes lengthy drying cycle unless you have a machine with a fast spin nearby. I find they do great with light weight clothing. It's the heavy/bulky fabrics that can be an issue, unless you have a Rapidry Frigidaire handy.
