We just removed our GE Coppertone self-cleaning double-oven out of our kitchen today.

The good:
Heavy chromed windows
Shaded Coppertone
Both ovens self-cleaning

The bad:
Bottom oven stopped heating
Top oven never kept constant temperature, either goes higher or lower than set temperature

I'm offering here in the group because I know it will be appreciated for what it is. And it's a beautiful Coppertone with nice chrome trim.

Probably best for parts unless you are mechanically gifted and think you can get it to work?

I could never get the self-cleaning latch to work on the bottom oven.
I have the original knobs, just removed them so they wouldn't get damaged while taking the oven out.

Hi Christina! That is a great looking double self cleaning and in copper tone no less. I hope someone picks it up for restoration. It’s been well kept for sure and I’m sorry that y’all had to let it go.

GE Ovens

Was the clock working when you took it out?  How much do you want for the clock timer?

Hi Christina  I just had another thought about parts I might want.  What do your oven racks look like?  Possibly the heating elements?  Knobs might be something else I might look at getting.  Thanks!

wenric/Rich...

I'm sure the clock was working.
The timer definitely worked, I used it all the time.
The oven racks look "used". They are not Shiney chrome looking. I've kept some of the racks to use in the newer top oven we got. That's the only self-cleaning oven in the ovens we got.
I still got the original knobs.

You can send me an email through the email in my profile.

Repairguy/Melvin:

Thank you.
I'm sorry that we have to let it go too! I love the Coppertone, and them chrome-trimmed windows
🤪

I think it's beautiful, compared to what we replaced it with
🙁

The new one might not look as good, but it's nice too!

I hope someone can restore the old one whole! A bit harder to find a home for a double wall oven than a freestanding range though I'm sure.

Fan-of-fans/Cole...

Thank you for the reply. You're right about the looks, this newer one seems a little "plain Jane" to me.

I used both ovens at the same time for the first time the other night. The oven temperature gage i have, I used it in the bottom oven. I set both ovens to 450°, and they both seemed to heat above the set mark.

I wondering if miss "plain Jane" is being an overachiever, to try an win me over??
Hmmmmm...
🤔

wenric/Rich...

I sent you a reply email. Not sure if you got it or not.
As soon as I hear back from you, Roger said to let him know so he can come over and remove all the parts you want, so we can package them up for you.
🙂

So I'll be waiting to get your reply email...

Hi Christina,  I haven't received anything.  I just checked again and nothing in the junk folder either.  When did you send it?

Christina, I see that the Coppertone oven is self clean in both top and bottom, but I can't tell if the Black Glass one has a standard or self clean bottom section. Regardless, the top doors could be swapped, and the bottom if it is also self clean. One of my cousins switched out their white door for black glass on their GE single wall oven.

GE Double Wall Ovens

The doors from the older Coppertone oven and the slightly newer GE are NOT interchangeable, GE made quite a few design changes to the doors and oven frame and hinges and it is impossible to interchange them.

Ask me how I know ?

I had the same GE double wall oven in our W,Va home in brushed chrome that was getting pretty tired.

I was given a brand new 1976 TOL GE double oven in Harvest Wheat, so I changed out the old oven and installed the new one and then went about trying to change the outer door panels or even the whole doors and nothing was possible, nothing was the same, it was as if I was trying to put Westinghouse doors on it, LOL

So currently we have a HG wall oven until I can find a BC later 70s oven to steal the doors from.

I just resent the email.
But just in case you don't get it, I'll copy & paste it here:

Hi Rich,

Roger is coming over Saturday for something else.  I mentioned your message about the GE double-oven parts you are interested in.  He said he can remove the timer/clock.  Did you still want the heating element?  The bottom oven stopped working completely, I don't know why?  Since I'm not mechanical, I don't know if that heating element will work?  The top oven, we could never get out to set at 350°, it would always go over 400°+.  And if we lowered the temp to 325° it would fall down to like 275°.  Roger said it sounds like the thermostat is bad.  I have no idea or clue?

So as of right now, you want the clock/timer, and the oven knobs.  Anything else?

Let me know so I can figure out how big of a box I will need.

Thank you,

Christina

Correct...

The Coppertone top & bottom ovens are Self-Cleaning.

The new black glass top oven is Self-Cleaning but the bottom oven is standard.

Believe me, I definitely thought about doing the door swap thing!
🤭
But moms wasn't having it! Because the black glass matches the black cooktop & black refrigerator
😒 😖
