Hi all.
I'm pretty sure I've came across this forum before looking for info on this dryer.
It's my in-laws and they have had it forever.
I think I put this belt back on for them before, so I didn't have to replace it then.
Now the time has come, it's broke.
I have the MOD. NO. = 1DE 720 D1 W and the SER. NO. MC221 536
The belt has 3 ridges and 2 grooves and is approximately 88" long and 1/4" wide.
Does anyone have the correct belt number and/or can confirm that those are the right dimensions?

Is it correct this is a 1962 model because of the W at the end of the MOD. NO.? I read that in another thread.

If this is a how-to for installing it that would be great, I don't remember what I did last time. I'm an electrician by day, and fix anything and everything all the other time for family lol
Thanks all!
NORM

D model 1968 GE electric dryer

The belt part number is WE 12 X 36, you should find these all over eBay. There are probably thousands of them in existence and very few people buying them anymore, if you were nearby, I’d give you one. I probably have 30 of them that I’ll never use.

You need to take the top up four screws under the front edge and then you take the front off the dryer to access the belt. You should also look at the condition of the idler pulley and rear drum bearing and front drum slides and also do a general cleanup inspect the heating elements to make sure that both of them are still good not uncommon to lose one element on these dryers, other than that you can probably keep it for quite a few years yet, with older dryers like this I do recommend people stay home when they run them because they don’t have all the safety thermostats and fuses that newer dryers have so they were somewhat more of a fire hazard .

GE Dryer belt with new part number

Hello Norm, greetings from Venezuela.

The correct part number for the belt is WE12X10014. Measures 87 x 1/4".

In reality this model must be from 1968. The D series in model number corresponds to 1968. I will send you more detailed information to your email.

Thanks for your responses. 1968... Wow!
I pretty much narrowed it down to the WE12x36 on my own, but great to have confirmation.... Or the WE12X10014.... Are they the same?
It does need a good cleaning. It's crazy this dryer only needed to last another 6 months and could have been done with it (its not in the greatest shape, rust at the bottom, etc.), as they are moving. Oh well, that's the way it goes.

It's interesting how you say there is no safety fuses. My mom had a totally different dryer, more modern, and it would blow thermal fuses like crazy. It was spotless. I'd replace the one once a month, maybe less.

So, using my industrial electrical know how, I took a thermal controller from work, along with an rtd. What it did was read the temperature and if it exceeded whatever the fuse limit was, it would open up the circuit and couldn't be restarted until it cooled down. No more replacing fuses. Not sure when she got rid of it, but it was still working when she did.

Drive belt for a 1968 GE dryer, WE 12 X10014 is not the correct belt for this dryer. It’s the same length but it’s not the right configuration the pulley on the motor will shred a WE 12 X10014 belt it might also slip and may just burn on the first load.

The dryer that kept tripping the thermal safety fuse had something wrong with it or the installation it usually not that hard to correct the problem.

Dryer belt part number

I have used my 1DG4720D1 dryer since April 2023, 8 loads a week continuously and I have not had any problems with that part number.

I'm just sharing my experience in case it helps in any way.

Hey everyone.
It's ended up getting the WE12X36 belt. It worked great.
Everything else was quite smooth, so no need for pulley or motor.
Jesus thanks for manual.
Now I hear this thing might go in the new house 😲!
Well I'm ready when it does.
The hardest part was getting the vent duct back on.

Happy for you

I am very happy that you were able to repair the dryer. I am completely at your service if you need to exchange ideas. I love old school GE washers and dryers. I would say stick with the dryer, they are very reliable in my experience.

P.S. Pray for Venezuela please
