If this were the starting bid on an 1890`s edison or tesla I can understand but not on a $35 to $40 G-E
Just like the one I grew up with
and it is still running at my mothers house today. The two differences in hers and this one is the switch is a toggle and this has a newer power cord and plug in.
I have one of my grand parents that is all brass and purchased in the 1920's still runs.
Seller is asking way way too much in my book.

Well, vintage fans do sometimes go for quite a bit of money. The $1,499.00 would be a bit shocking even so, but there's just one thing: I just checked out the auction, and it is $14.99, not $1,499.00.

Am I missing something? I see $14.99. Not $1499.00 Maybe it was a typo. But the shipping still seems high.

Oh yeah, I saw a revision link now, and it does say they revised the price. Guess they just made a mistake. For $14.99 it's a very nice fan. It's larger than most of the oscillating fans, and has 3 speeds. I do have a GE oscillator of a bit later vintage, probably a 10" one. It has one speed and the later, "tighter" blade guard. I found it at a sale and got it because it reminded me of one my Grandma had, which was just like it but had the guard like the one in the auction. Whisper quiet and very high quality!

That is a GE with a Vortalex blade, as they called it. I have a few and they are SERIOUS fans! That blade, while hard to balance, is amazingly quiet and effective. This type of Vortie is the last of GE's good fans. It is a late 1940s/1950s version. The motor and oscillator date back to at least the 1920s, if not earlier. There is a brass oil cup with a wool wick under the front bearing (I replace wicks when I get the fans). I also oil as needed with non-detergent electric motor oil and enjoy hours of cool and VERY quiet operation.
Well worth the money, but not 1400.
