GE filter-flo memories

I remember the GE filter-flo washers when I was a kid. We would have the washer and matching electric dryer running constantly. We have done everything from very lightly soiled lingerie on gentle/slow to very heavily soiled denims on normal/fast. We would use normal/fast more often than not.

We had one of the later versions (just before the last style of control panel) Washer and dryer) They were given to us about 2007 and we used them a couple years- both were well used, the washer still worked well but only the fast agitation speed worked, and the dryer sucked. The washer washed great, but one time the drain hose came off and it flooded our laundry room, bathroom, and hallway. You could really stuff it and it turned over great (had the ramped agitator) but sadly the agitator stripped out and we didn't bother fixing it. The dryer went on a while longer, but started getting WAY too hot (melted a fiber filled comforter on low) and we got rid of it. In my opinion it never dried that well and always wrinkled clothes terribly. Would have another Filter-Flo but wouldn't bother with a GE dryer. Ended up getting Frigidaire Gallery front loaders that my Mom loved dearly, but I never liked. The washer didn't rinse well and the dryer ran almost as hot as the GE.

post filter-flo

I now have the post filter-flo washer and matching electric dryer from GE. They work wonderfully. But still... I miss the filter-flo washer and matching electric dryer. I like the dramatic splashing on small and normal/fast, whether it was sudsy or clear. I have noticed that the small load size was more sudsy in cold water on the normal/fast speed. My filter-flo had 2 speeds - normal/fast and gentle/slow. The one we used 99 percent of the time was normal/fast. I also remember the spin cycle will vary in volume. For example, the normal speed would thunder during spin - both rinse/spin and final spin with a load of denims. Those were fond memories.
