GE Filter Flo Queston

Ok i have a 1985ish GE Filter Flo. It belonged to Johhnys grand ma who never used the filter flo pan. I cleaned it up, put a filter flo pan in it and voila.. But.. In the area where the lid switch is there is a place where a plastic chute is (where the water recurclates through and into the filter flo pan).. That little plastic piece fell in between the inner tub and outer tub.. IS there any easy way to get the agitator out and remove the inner tub? It makes a very high pich noise that is obivsouly that plastic piece but only when spinning. Any ideas??? The washer works great otherwise.. Chad

You should be able to lift the top and reach down in between the tubs to grab it.

Probably all you will need to do is to raise the top on the machine. I am not sure about 1985 but if it is like the older ones it should have two plastic hinges on the back and a tab on each side of the front you can see between the machine top and front of the cabinet. You may have to pull up a little on the top to see them in the crack where the top and front meet. Push in a little on the tabs to unlatch the top and it will raise up.

The noise is probably the hose rubbing on the tub and should be taken care of ASAP. That agitator (activator), if it is a one piece, should come out by pulling up on it. You should do this once in a while and clean the crud that collects under it.

But only if...

the piece hasn't become wedged in there from the last spin cycle. If it got eaten or chewed up, which is possible, you'll want to replace it - they are easy to find if you have an old junk yard or scrap heap near by. But its important to keep this piece securely inserted into the rubber connetion at the back of the outer tub. Just remember to pull the rubber lip of the splash guard off before you open the top next time. Good luck and let us know how you make out. No its somewhere in the inky void that i can't see. I have another one to replace it with.. Just curious what might happen if i don't replace it??

Get a putty knife and look for the two spots on the front where the clips are. Push the putty knife into one of the clips and at the same time, lift that side up. Do the same with the other side, and then you'll be able to raise the top. I'm pretty sure you'll be able to see the piece in the outer tub with a flashlight. If not, get someone skinny and have them shove the inner tub over and put their arm in between the two tubs to feel for the missing piece. It's not lost completely.

If it is chewed up (which may or may not be the case), definitely replace it. If you don't replace it, bad things will happen. Since the Filter-Flo nozzle is missing, water will spray everywhere under the top during wash, and cause premature rusting.

Here's the location of the spring clips. You can see where the top is just *slightly* indented in the front.

If you don't fish it out, it may get caught in the inlet to the water pump at some point, which sits at the bottom of the outer tub. I don't think its small enought to actually enter the pump, but it could block the flow of water into the pump if it gets lodged in there.

You need to get it out of there, as you risk the possibility of puncturing the tub boot, which would be decidedly unpleasant.

Yes...did you raise the entire top assembly, THEN feel around for it?

Remove the agitator. There will be a plastic cover under it, and I think 3 bolts under that. Remove the bolts, and the tub will lift out. Remove offending piece. Reassemble, and enjoy.

Yeah we took the top up and felt around and couldn;t feel for it. Got the agitator out with out muss.. Could i take a shop vac w/a small crevice nozzle and remove it?? Hmmm...
