Came across this set early this morning. Was sitting out in front of someone's house just a few blocks away from me. I ask what they were doing with them and they said they were garbage and that I was more than welcome to take them. They are pretty much bottom of the line though. But seem to be in pretty good shape. There's no rust on them at all except for a tiny little spot under the lid on the washer.

Nice.

They look like they will clean up well. But I know we are a rare bunch here. I could never look at all that crud around the inside of the lid. I mean it looks like mildew and I can't for the life of me understand how people will just look the other way or not clean it.

Dirty clothes go in, but the the clean clothes aren't clean if it grazes against that muck.

I hope they run well. And the best part... they're free.

A great find!

Congratulations on finding this pair.  I think this pair is one of my all-time favorites from GE; not BOL, not TOL, but enough features to handle 99% of what has to be washed and dried.

I hope you have fun with them.

Thanks guys. Yeah when the weather warms up a little more I will tear them all apart and clean them up real good. This is gonna be fun because I've never worked on GE's before. I've only had Maytag's. But I've been wanting a filter flow set for quite a while now. And when I seen these sitting outside I couldn't get turned around fast enough LOL !

Congratulations!  You made a nice save, there - can't beat free for a price!   The washer reminds me of a 1986-ish GE that I bought for him to replace a 1973 GE clone.  Looking forward to seeing more pictures!!

Great Save!

Seems like filter-flos are popping up all over...

I picked up that exact set for Hans a few weeks back...also FREE.....

2 main cycles...3 wash temps, 3 water levels....most likely single speed....

but that's OK, that machine will NEVER die!....

I prefer the larger capacity and mini-basket, but none the less, a very durable set

That is a great find. Just the basics is good enough for me. Should do a great job for you.

nice

GE's are SOLID washers and driers, you'll love the filtering. Keep your eyes peeled for a fab softener dispenser.

I have various TOL models of various brands, also some very BOL ones, they're all fun and useful.

GE Turnover is great, rinsing is great, extraction is great, you'll be impressed.

Get us a closeup of the washer console.
Congratulations!

OK. I'll keep my eyes open. I would like to get a mini basket for it one of these days. I'm looking forward to warmer weather where I can test them out. I am looking forward to watching the washer operate. My uncle had one of these when I was just a little kid but it's been so long ago it's hard to remember all the details. I will post pictures as I go through them

Aferim!

If you're willing to sacrifice one of the three water levels, you can CAREFULLY grind/file down the groove for the lowest water level in the hard plastic "clover" on the side of the water level control to the level appropriate for the Mini-Basket. It takes some time and experimentation, but I've done it a couple of times successfully. I don't have any pictures of doing this but maybe some of the more talented mechanics here will chime in.

Your machines are the great<span style="font-size: 8pt;">7 </span><span style="font-size: 10pt;"> <span style="font-size: 12pt;">grandchildren of GE's 500 series, probably the most sold of all their models. They do the job well and seem to last longer than models with more bells and whistles. Enjoy them in good health.</span></span>
